Drones Used In Blockbuster Movie Scenes
2
  • Hollywood has long been keen to employ the use of
drones to help filmmakers create scenes that push
creative boundaries, and to give movie goers a
brand new, thrilling experience. Not only that,
but their use could save movie makers real bucks
and even increase the safety aspect of sets.

3
  • However, filming with the use of a drone was
illegal here in the US until 2014, and in fact
the majority of new movies still prefer not to
have it listed on the IMDB (international movie
database), that they used them during filming.
This is certain to change though, as the new FAA
regulations allow for filmmakers to have more
freedom to use drones in their movies. Most are
hopeful that the laws will continue to become
more and more flexible as time goes on involving
far less red tape, and allowing movie makers to
safely disclose their use of drones.

4
  • Here are five of the top blockbuster movies that
have used drones in their filming
  • SKYFALL
  • Drones were used to track the star of the film,
James Bond 007 (played by Daniel Craig) as he
chased and scrambled his way across the rooftops
of the famed bazaar in Istanbul, in hot pursuit
of the Unnamed Terrorist 3. The footage was high
speed and gave viewers a unique perspective of
the action, and the aerial imaging platform,
Flying-Cam 3.0 SARAH that was used by the company
who shot the footage, recently won an Oscar for
    their work.

5
  • 2. SPECTRE
  • Were talking James Bond again, as drones are
used throughout Sam Mendess latest 007 movie,
Spectre. One of the most memorable action scenes
involving 007s escape from a raging fire, was
filmed using drones from the rooftops of
    Trafalgar Square in London.

6
  • 3. CHAPPIE
  • Filmed in the wake of the critically acclaimed
District 9, South African director Neill
Blomkamps latest movie, Chappie, involves the
extensive use of drones throughout its filming.
Some of the shots in the movie that would
otherwise have been done on a cable camera, were
instead filmed with a drone, making them much
    more fluid, and speedy.

7
  • 4. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET
  • A drone cinematography company was responsible
for capturing some of the impressive pool party
shots in Martin Scorceses latest film, The Wolf
Of Wall Street, and its hard to imagine that
scene being shot any other way and being half as
    effective.

8
  • 5. THE NOVEMBER MAN
  • In this movie, Pierce Brosnan is actually
employed as a spy for an agency that uses drones
to capture surveillance footage, and throughout
the film, the viewer gets a pretty unique drones
eye view of the action. The director of November
Rain, Roger Donaldson, was so impressed with the
aerial footage that he asked the drone pilots to
remain on set and help him shoot the entire movie.

9
  • It would certainly seem as if drones are here to
stay, and while their use may still be under
scrutiny, theres simply no way that film makers
and directors alike could ever go back to filming
    without them.
