Freestlye Free-ride "Hybrid" Boards

  • The terms 'freestyle' and free-ride' boards are
    often used interchangeable, however at
EarthCruzerz we treat them as different styles.
They are similar and have some overlap
    characteristics between them, but we
differentiate between the two by their respective
    high speed uses.

Freestyle Boards
  • The White Rhino, is a great example of a
'freestyle' board. Just like the White Rhino,
most freestyle boards are made up of a more
    forgiving material, such as bamboo.?.

4
  • It is a board that offers both a drop through or
top mount truck setup, allowing for riders to be
low to the ground for more stability at medium
speed cruising, or allows for a higher setup to
create a greater fulcrum point between nose/ tail
form the ground for more pop involved in
    technical tricks.

  • On that note, a freestyle board, usually has both
a nose and tail and is usually non-directional,
to provide a rider to string together trick
combinations without having to worry about
reverting back to the front, but rather continue
riding since there is no difference in a
non-directional board. With most modern day
designs for freestyle boards, having a slender
nose and tail along with drop though truck
mounting options, there is usually ample empty
space alongside both the nose and tail.. This
space  creates large wheel cut outs. These wheel
cut outs allow for for sharp turns and greater
maneuverability, which is a great characteristic o
    f a freestyle board.

Free-ride Boards
  • Just like 'freestyle boards' a 'free-ride' board
usually have large wheel cut outs to allow for
sharp turns and greater maneuverability. Boards
are also setup to be ridden either way
    (non-directional). They also usually come
equipped with drop-through trucks in order to
provide a lower board for more stability, since
free-riding consists of everything from tricks to
    sliding and downhill.

8
  • This is where the main difference between
'freestyle' and free-ride boards lay, in
    the downhill abilities. Free-ride boards
are usually comprised of a harder more stable
wood, usually maple which makes them able
to tackle the full spectrum of riding,
from tricks to downhill, just like our 'WIld
    Thang'.

9
  •  Boards may have some kind of concave to offer
better beveled edges for tricks that involve
board flips and also may contain a raised center
spine down the length of the board with a slight
drop in the board where feet go (refereed to as
gas pedals) and help 'lock' feet into place in
order to be able to help control the sliding
    action. ?
