Growing dependencies of employees, especially
millennials, on mobile devices and apps
highlights the increasing importance of mobile
computing in the workplace.
As per the findings of a latest study conducted
by a reputed industry analyst firm focused on the
mobile communications sector, inferred satisfying
increase in device as well as app usage. Also
majority of employees consider enterprise
mobility is associated with better business
performance.

Another interesting aspect of the study is that
75 percent of apps used by the employees at
workplace are cloud-based software-as-a-service
(SaaS) like Whatsapp, Skype, LinkedIn, etc. and
the remaining apps used are developed by their
companies either by in-house mobile app
development or by outsourcing mobile app
development project to remote team of mobile app
development specialists for cost effective and
customized solutions.

Top mobile workplace brands

Among the many aspects covered by the survey, one
interesting one was finding the most popular
mobile workplace brands.
Apple topped, Microsoft came second and Google
was third with 48 percent, 45 percent and 33
percent of employees voting for them
respectively. Traditional workplace technology
brands such as Blackberry, Dell and IBM showed
limited presence by getting only 10 percent of
employee votes.

IT maturity escalates

The findings revealed that more number of
companies now have a dedicated IT team providing
support to enterprise mobility as stated by 35
percent of employees and 78 percent of employees
confirming that their organizations have a mobile
IT policy in place.
Moreover, the number of companies implementing
formal bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies has
grown as confirmed by 25 percent of employees
that currently their company has a formal BYOD
policy in place which was just 17 percent in the
previous year.
