Title: Drones; Are They Really Here To Stay?

1
Drones Are They Really Here To Stay?

2
  • Drones are becoming increasingly popular for a
whole range of commercial activities, nowadays,
and there is huge potential for them to change
    our lives.
  • Drones for commercial purposes are generally the
small, GPS enabled airplanes or helicopters that
can be controlled remotely or with autopilot
generally advanced autopilot that can take off
and land safely. Having already proved extremely
popular for recreational purposes, they are now
being used in other, more important ways

3
  • Ways in which drones are being used commercially
  • Protecting wildlife
  • The US is already using drones to monitor land
and species, but there are hopes that they could
also be used in national parks the world over, to
monitor wildlife movement and even to track and
    prevent poachers.

4
  • Delivering parcels
  • Amazon is already in the testing stage of using
drones to deliver smaller, lightweight packages
to customers, and while there be many issues
surrounding privacy laws in the US, its a
project Amazon and other leading online stores
    are keen to pursue.

5
  • Hunting hurricanes
  • Drones can be safely deployed into the heart of a
storm with no risk to humans, and the reports
that they can produce on temperature, location
and humidity could prove invaluable in helping
scientists understand more about hurricanes and
the forces of water and wind within them.

6
  • Mapping
  • Drones can also be used to map large areas of
land, such as for technology companies, farmers,
festivals and property owners. The automated
software programmed into the drone allows for
thousands of highly accurate photographs to be
taken, and then with 3D technology, the images
can be put together to create high definition
    maps.

7
  • Cinematography
  • Film makers are already using drones to capture
impressive shots for their blockbuster movies
not only does it bring down the cost of hiring
helicopters for aerial shots, but the potential
for dramatic and powerful scenes is greatly
    increased.
  • Real estate
  • Property sellers are using drones to create
videos of the homes theyre trying to sell.

8
  • Just how common will drones become?
  • Some say that one day soon, seeing a commercial
drone may be just as common as seeing any one of
the branded delivery trucks that we see so many
times on a day to day basis. With drones being
fast and eliminating the need for a delivery
driver, why wouldnt they be used more
    frequently?
  • Perhaps we may even get to the point where the
skies are full of drones, zipping from a to be
    effortlessly?

9
  • What could prevent drones from being here to
    stay?
  • There are many safety concerns surrounding the
use of drones, that will need to be virtually
eliminated before they can become a part of our
everyday lives, such as avoiding birds, planes
and of course, people. There are myriad legal
concerns that will need to be addressed too, and
while it may take a long time for the FAA to draw
up a set of rules and legal framework, there can
be no doubt that their potential will certainly
see them being used throughout our lifetime.
