  • Flossing

Flossing helps to break down the tartar that
builds up between the teeth and gums where brush
might not clean properly. Gently floss between
your teeth and gums and it will result in healthy
gums that do not bleed during flossing.
  • Regular Cleanings
  • It is recommended to have your teeth cleaned
every six months to help prevent any dental
cavities or tartar build-up. Please contact us
and we will schedule it for you.

DENTURES
We want our patients to go home feeling content
and confident. After giving denture, patients are
apprehensive about them as it is new for their
routine and it takes time to adjust to it. So
here is what you need to know
4
  • ADJUSTMENT PERIOD
  • Eating Eating may feel slightly awkward and
uncomfortable during the first few days following
your denture placement. One may also notice an
increase in the amount of saliva production.
  • Speaking
  • Patients have difficulty during initial time
after wearing denture to say words. But as you
practice difficult words, the muscles, jaw bones,
and tongue will begin to become stronger and know
how to interact with one another as you speak.
  • Daily Mouth Care
  • It is very important that you do NOT wear the
dentures at night for the first seven days. Your
gums and jawbones need rest after wearing denture
    the whole day.

5
BRIDGE AND CROWNS
  • After the crown placement
  • If anesthesia was used, your lips and tongue
might feel numb for some hours. Be careful to
avoid biting your cheek, tongue, or lips. The
tooth may be sensitive to pressure, sweet foods,
or different temperatures but if it persists
longer than four weeks, you will need to contact
your dentist as soon as possible.

6
  • Taking Care of Temporary Crown
  • We recommend you to avoid sticky foods such as
gum or other types of candy. Try not to eat in
the side of the mouth that received the temporary
crown. Do not eat hard fruits or vegetables such
as carrots or apples as hardness of these types
of foods may also cause the temporary crown to
get lose and fall off. If your crown gets loose,
    contact your dentist.
  •
  • Daily Mouth Care
  • Crown requires the same amount of care as natural
teeth. Make sure to brush your teeth after every
meal and floss daily. We recommend that you have
your teeth cleaned every 6 months.

7
  • TOOTH EXTRACTION
  •
  • Bleeding will occur for the first few hours
following the procedure. Therefore it is advised
to bite down on clean moist gauze placed over the
socket for 30-45 minutes the pressure will help
prevent bleeding. If bleeding persists longer
than 24 hours, contact our office immediately.

8
  • Do not rinse or spit for the first 24 hours.
After the first day, rinse your mouth with warm
saltwater three times a day to reduce any
    swelling.
  • Do not smoke, drink hot liquids, carbonate
drinks, or use straws. These actions can cause
loosening of the blood clot which will prolong
    the healing process.

9
  • Sleep with you head elevated (recliner or an
    extra pillow).
  •
  • Your lips and tongue may feel numb due to
anesthesia for a few hours. Therefore be careful
when you chew your food to avoid biting your
cheek, tongue, or lips. If the numbness persists
longer than 24 hours, please contact us
    immediately.
  •
  • Swelling in the area of extraction is normal. To
help reduce swelling, wrap an ice pack in a
washcloth place it on the area from where the
tooth was removed from cheek side.

10
  • Try to eat from the opposite site of extraction.
If all four teeth were removed, eat cold, soft
    food only such as pudding.
  •
  • Difficulty in opening jaw is common following
extractions and will return to normal in a few
    days.
  •
  • You may experience pain during your recovery.
Over the counter pain medications can be used for
    relief.

11
  • When you brush your teeth avoid the teeth next
too where the extracted tooth was present for the
    first 24 hours.
  •
  • Most importantly rest and relax. Doing too much
physical activity may hinder the healing process
