Title: Knife Defense Seminars Held at EMA Toronto West.
1Knife Defense Seminars Held at EMA Toronto West
2The students at Elite Martial Arts newest
location, Toronto West, were excited about the
recent knife defense seminars being led by Elite
Martial Arts founder and Lead Instructor for the
Krav Maga Association of Canada, Dan Novak.
3Self-defense is an essential aspect to our
Toronto Krav Maga classes taught at all of our
EMA locations. Unlike other forms of martial
arts, which may require natural ability or
superior genetics, Krav Maga is teachable to
students, regardless of their gender, age, or
size, while incorporating movements for different
situations one might encounter in the real world

4All of the students at EMA Toronto West
appreciated being taught the value of learning
knife defense. Having a background in law
enforcement allows Dan to teach his students
based upon real world experiences, rather than
just theory. Dan covered a variety of topics
while reviewing the basic fundamentals of knife
defense.
5All of the students were eager to start learning
knife defense skills. Prior to jumping directly
into the training, Dan began his seminars by
putting the students through an intense warm up.
Warming up before training is essential and
ensures students are fully prepared to receive
the specialized training both mentally and
physically.
6The basic fundamentals of knife defense focused
on both armed and unarmed attacks. According to
Dan, In the real world, you are never entirely
sure what situations you could encounter. It is
fully possible an assailant could assault an
individual while armed with a knife or unarmed.
My goal was to teach the students to be prepared
for either type of situation and enable them with
the skills they would need for self-defense.
7The students were receptive and responded well to
the initial series of movements and instruction.
All of the students in attendance got to
participate in simulated scenarios while learning
the various techniques. The students were also
given time to practice these techniques with Dan
and other students to further enhancing their
learning.
8Dan also covered hostage situations and
techniques students could use if they ever found
themselves in this particular situation. There
are specific Krav Maga techniques one could use
to escape, depending upon the actual
circumstances. In order to further help students
determine when the best time would be to employ
their self-defense skills, Dan covered in great
detail Situational Awareness. ema-toronto
9Situational Awareness is being able to recognize
and identify what is going on around you. It is a
vital skill everyone needs. It helps you properly
assess potential danger and how to best avoid
direct confrontation or putting yourself at risk.
All of the participants had a fun time throughout
the seminars and look forward to future seminars
with Dan
10It is important to stress, Dan and everyone at
EMA does not encourage their students to seek out
dangerous situations in real life. One of the key
foundations of Krav Maga is to never to engage in
attack, but rather to attempt to avoid a direct
confrontation whenever possible. For more
