Environment required for App Development
  • The steps involved in developing application's
    environment is as follows
  • First decide the application domain.
  • Next configure the decided app domain in Domain
    Name Server(DNS).
  • Now create a wildcard Secure Sockets Layer(SSL)
    certificate for the app domain.
  • Initiate subscription settings and App management
    service applications.
  • Configure the subscription settings service
    application.
  • Configure the App Management service application.

Understanding Apps Model
  • SharePoint 2013 App model contains three hosting
    options, they are
  • A SharePoint hosted app do not contain server
    side components. These apps custom business logic
    executes within the client browser.  
  • Provider hosted app contains server side
    components. These components require separate
    environment to host them.
  • Auto-hosted app runs on Office 365, these apps
    contains server side components, but whenever app
    deploys to SharePoint, the service fires the
    server side elements in an Azure layer.

Type of Apps
  • SharePoint apps are three types, they are Full
    Page App, App Part, Extension App.
  • Full page apps offers a fully immersive
    experience by rendering the app using the entire
    real estate of the page.
  • App part  is an IFrame hosted in a Web Part that
    is represented by the Client Web Part class.
  • Extension apps are the custom actions which
    direct users to a SharePoint site page from
    SharePoint apps. These are never provide an user
    experience in apps.

Working with Developer Site
  • Developer site is a platform to debug an app
    before publish it on SharePoint site.
  • Creation of a developer site is as follows
  • Log into the portal and click Admin. The default
    site collection will appear then Click New and
    choose private site collection. Then a window of
    specify details for the new site collection
    opens.
  • Enter a title and web address(URL).
  • Select Developer Site as the site template and
    fill up admin and time zone details .

Working with Developer Site
  • In the memory storage field, mention the size of
    the space wanted to reserve for the new site. Or
    else the default value should be enough for most
    common scenarios.
  • Click OK to complete the site creation.
  • The newly created site will be appear in the
    administration page with default sites
    collection. Office 365 maintains some space where
    you can test and publish your applications.

Creating Apps using NAPA
  • Napa is a tool used to create SharePoint hosted
    Add-ins in browser instead of in Visual studio.
    Add-in creation using NAPA as follows
  • First sign up for an Office 365 Developer Site.
    Then, install Napa Office 365 Development Tools
    on your Developer site.
  • Open Napa in your browser. Choose the Add New
    Project tile. Choose the kind of add-in you want
    to create, name the project, and then choose
    the Create button.
  • On the side of the page, choose the Run button.
     Office application associated with the kind of
    add-in you chose opens, and the sample add-in
    appears.
