Title: Asbestos Register & Asbestos Mangement Plan

1
Why Do I Need an Asbestos Register if There is
No Asbestos at My Property?
2
When Identified Asbestos in a Workplace or
building need to create asbestos register
  • It quite reasonably does not occur to many
owners that they would be required to take any
active steps in relation to asbestos if they know
that there is no asbestos in their building.
  • All commercial buildings constructed prior to 31
December 1989 that are used as workplaces must
have current and compliant asbestos registers in
    place.
  • The Asbestos register must be kept current and
    include
  • the location of the asbestos
  • the likely source of asbestos that is not fixed
    or installed
  • the type of asbestos containing material
  • whether the asbestos containing material is
    friable or non-friable
  • whether the asbestos-containing material is
likely to sustain damage or deterioratio details
of the location and likely source of asbestos
that is not fixed or installed in relation to all
inaccessible areas that may contain asbestos
  • so far as possible detailed information about
activities likely to be carried out in the
workplace that are likely to damage or disturb
    the asbestos.

Asbestos Health Effects
  • The most common way for asbestos fibers to enter
the body is through breathing. In fact, asbestos
containing material is not generally considered
to be harmful unless it is releasing dust or
fibers into the air where they can be inhaled or
    ingested.
  • Asbestosis is a serious, chronic, non-cancerous
    respiratory disease. Inhaled asbestos fibers
aggravate lung tissues, which cause them to scar.
  • Lung cancer causes the largest number of deaths
    related to asbestos exposure.
