Types of Dental Crowns
  • Stainless Steel
  • Prefabricated crowns that are used as temporary
measure to protect the tooth. Its commonly used
to children because they dont need multiple
dental visits and much budget wisely than
custom-made crowns and prophylactic dental care.
  • Metals
  • These are used in crowns that includes gold
alloy, other alloys or a base-metal alloy. It
doesnt break even though for biting and chewing
forces. Their good choice for out-of-sight
    molars.
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal
  • It looks like normal teeth however, sometimes the
metal placed beneath the crowns porcelain can
show through as a dark line, especially at the
gum line and even more so if your gums recede.
These crowns might be a good choice for long
bridges wherein the metal is needed for strength
and for front or back teeth.

5
Types of Dental Crowns
  • All-resin
  • These are less expensive however, they are more
prone to fractures and they wear down over time.
Their usually used only for temporary crowns.
  • All-ceramic or all-porcelain
  • Dental crowns might be more suitable for people
with metal allergies and they provide better
natural color match. All- ceramic crowns are a
    good choice for front teeth.
  • Temporary versus permanent
  • Mostly permanent crowns are made in the dental
laboratory while temporary crowns can be done in
the dentists office. Temporary crowns are made
of acrylic or stainless steel and can be used as
temporary repair until permanent crown is
    constructed by a lab.
  • Zirconia or milled crown
  • Dental offices that have the software and
hardware can produce a crown by one visit only,
    no need for temporary crowns.
