  • It has to be questioned why anyone should have to
    take a supplement at all? The reason why they
    have become so popular is that more and more
    people recognise that todays modern diet is not
    really up to scratch.
  • Just today I learnt that it is no longer enough
    to consume five fruit and vegetable portions per
    day and the recommendation is now 10 portions!
    Not many people manage five so ten is almost
    impossible for most of us.
  • It is easy to see why the supplement market has
    expanded so much. Products such as B12 spray and
    other beneficial vitamins are easy to take
    without having to alter the way we eat
    drastically.

  • It may be fine to eat unsuitable foods when you
    are young and healthy and your body is in full
    swing producing enough nutrients to feed all your
    cells. Thought should be given, though, what
    impact such a diet will have on your body in
    later life.
  • If you suffer fatigue and brain fog, there may
    already be something wrong and it is prudent to
    change your diet. Adding extra vitamins and
    probiotics to your food will improve your
    condition. If you need to boost your energy
    levels you could give the above mentioned spray a

    over-refined foods, foods with a high sugar level
    and colourings to make them more appetising to
    the eye and a host of other factors. Pollution
    has much to do with it, especially in cities.

  • Originally this vitamin was isolated as a cure
    for anaemia. It is a compound of closely related
    chemicals and they are together called cobalamin.
    Although anaemia is one of the classic signs of
    this vitamin deficiency, it also helps the
    nervous system and if B12 deficiency is not
    rectified it can lead to permanent damage.

  • In the older population a deficiency such as this
    may impair cognitive responses. Vitamin B12 is
    present in some foods in natural form. You will
    find it in sea foods and the liver for instance.
    Although insufficient consumption of this vitamin
    may be the cause, there are other factors such as
    some medical conditions and malabsorption. The
    latter is the case if you suffer from pernicious
    anaemia.
  • If you are a vegetarian, the chances are that you
    will not receive enough of this vitamin and it is
    a wise precaution to add it as a supplement to
    your diet. Most of these supplements are
    suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
