  • Basavanagudi an area planned by Standish Lee, a
    well-known British town planner is a heritage
    locality that still has remnants of old English
    bungalows and large circles that are evident in
    the vicinity. Gandhi Bazaar, a famous bazaar in
    Bangalore, now stands on what used to be Karanji
    tank.

  • This neighbourhood takes its name
    from Basava meaning bull and Gudi which means
    temple.
  • This area was earlier called as Sunkenahalli.
    Famous landmarks here are the Bull Temple and
    Gandhi Bazaar.
  • Basavanagudi is a favourite spot among Kannada
    movie and soap opera directors as it portrays old
    Bangalore.
  • As it is strategically located, Basavanagudi is
    39 km away from Bangalore International Airport,
    N.R Colony is situated within a radius of 600 m,
    Chamarajapet (2 km), Hanumanthanagar (2 km),
    Jayanagar (3 km) and Kalasipalyam (3 km).

  • MG Road and Brigade Road, two famous shopping
    areas, are 7 km away from Basavanagudi

  • There are bus stops within this area for easy
    commute and auto stands are located at important
    junctions. Several bus operators like KPN
    Travels, Kallada Travels,Meghana Travels,ABT
    Travels and SRS Travels ply on this route, apart
    from the KSRTC buses.
  • Those interested in different cultures can visit
    the Indian Institute of World Culture which is
    just 900 m away or read books in the City Central
    Library. M.N. Krishna Rao Park and Bugle Rock
    Park are two parks for walkers and joggers to
    enjoy the peace and tranquility.

  • For the shopaholics, Gandhi Bazaar is a good
    destination offering everything from dresses to
    general provisions to electronic appliances.
    There are several restaurants if you want to have
    a grab.
  • In terms of amenities, there are good hospitals
    such as Vanivilas Hospital (3 km) and KIMS (2
    km).
  • Several schools and colleges of repute are
    located in the neighbourhood, including National
    College, BMS College of Engineering, Vijaya
    Degree College, V.V Puram College, BMS College
    for Women, The Home School, Sri Kumaran School,
    East West School and National High School.

  • The Tippu Sultans Fort, which is 3 km from here,
    is a major attraction. A two-day groundnut fair,
    also known as Kadlekai Parishe, held near Dodda
    Ganapathi Temple, attracts a huge footfall. 
  • ere, you will get various types of groundnuts
    from different parts of the state during the
    event. Lal Bagh Botanical Garden, which has its
    flower show during Republic Day and Independence
    Day, is another place which you can visit. 
  • Ramakrishna Ashrama, just a kilometer away, and
    Shakara Matta (2 km) are famous in this locality
    with many devotees flocking to the area.

  • After offering prayers people, normally like to
    take a stroll to the famous Food Street, which is
    2 km from Basavanagudi and try out some of the
    specialties sold by the street vendors.
  • Vidyarthi Bhavan which opened its doors in 1943
    and Hotel Davangere Benne Dosa are the two old
    and famous hotels that provide hot and tasty
    South Indian delicacies.
