Title: Getting Started with Freestyle BMX

1
Getting Started with Freestyle BMX
2
  • If you've always wanted to give freestyle BMX
riding a try, there's no time like now. With
people of all ages increasingly turning to riding
BMX, there are tonnes of bikes and accessories to
choose from and plenty of places that are perfect
    for testing out your skills.

3
  • But what's the best possible way to get started
when you've got no idea where to begin? This post
should help simplify your introduction to riding
    BMX. Check it out

4
Choosing Your Gear
  • If you're just starting out, you probably don't
want to buy the most expensive freestyle BMX
bikes on the market, but you also don't want to
buy the cheapest. Set yourself up for success by
investing in a quality bike that's not going to
    give you any grief.

5
  • While some people think they can get a good
deal on a bike online, the best option is to
visit a local BMX shop, like The Village BMX. At
a shop like this, you can actually speak to
people who ride and know BMX and who are well
equipped to help you choose the right gear. Plus,
they can ensure you're purchasing the right size
    bike.

6
  • Now, when it comes to BMX accessories, you're
also going to want some expert advice. There are
many things on the market that you just won't
need, but a good quality helmet, shin pads and
gloves are absolute musts. Especially the helmet.

7
  • You don't want to go overboard because too much
equipment will only restrict your movement and
make learning to ride BMX just that much more
difficult, but you don't want to ride without the
basics. They're going to help ensure that you
still want to ride after your first few crashes.

Tricks for Beginners
  • If you've got everything you need, get started!
Of course, everyone wants to try tricks, so here
are a couple that are well suited for beginners.

9
Manual
  • Think of the manual as similar to popping a
wheelie. The difference, however, is that a
manual doesn't include pedalling, but you coast
along while keeping the front wheel off the
    ground.

10
Bunny Hop
  • For this trick, the goal is to pull the front
wheel up off the ground, then bringing the back
end up with the pedals, while actually leveling
out the bike when it's in the air. This trick is
the foundation of a variety of other tricks, so
it's a good place to start.

11
  • If you've got questions about riding BMX or are
looking for advice on gear, The Village BMX is a
great shop with highly knowledgeable staff.
