What is a Digital Village?

• A technologically and digitally forward village
  that boasts of a virtually cashless economy.
• Every individual holds a savings Bank account and
  most payments are made using digital methods.
• USSD banking, Micro ATMs, Mobile Banking, SMS
  Banking, WIFI etc are some of the digital
  technologies used to enable the village to go
  digital.

Vijaya Banks Digital Village Initiative

• Vijaya Bank is the first public sector bank in
  India to have taken the initiative to digitize
  banking activities in villages and make them
  digitally inclusive.
• Chandagalu village in Karnataka's Mandya district
  was the 1st village selected for digital
  transformation by the bank.
• Success of Digital Village transformation at
  Chandagalu village was successfully replicated at
  Dupalli Village (Telangana State - Nizamabad
  District) and Paladugu Village ( Guntur District,
  Andhra Pradesh)

Digital transformation process

• Bank accounts of all residents of the Village
  were opened under PMJDY.
• Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) Overdraft
  facility was enabled at ATMs, for all eligible
  families in the village.
• Training on digitisation was imparted to 5995
  account holders.
• ATMs were opened in the village, in addition to
  high speed wi-fi connection for the villagers.
• Kisan Credit Cards were issued.
• Vijaya Financial Literacy Centers were opened to
  educate the village inhabitants about financial
  products and services.
• To enable transfer of government benefits into
  savings account, villagers accounts were linked
  to Aadhaar.

Digital Village - Result and way forward

• 100 coverage with the inclusion of cashless
  transactions, usage of online wallets and
  provision of free Wi-Fi.
• Mobile Banking, SMS Banking, Missed Call Alerts,
  Internet Banking, Debit Card etc. were enabled
  for all households in the villages.
• Villagers have been issued with RuPay debit card
  and they are covered under RuPay Insurance Scheme
• Reduction of gap between rural and urban India,
  by bringing financially excluded people under the
  fold of banking.
• Based on the roaring success of this initiative,
  Vijaya Bank is planning to extend the initiative
  to 5 more villages Pudupet, Deewal, Pandhi,
  Kurali and Thirupakottai.
• Bank further aims at reach north-east regions as
  well every nook and corner of the country with
  its sights set on a truly Digital India.
