INTRODUCTION- Dungarpur is a city in the
southernmost part of rajasthan state of india
. it was founded in 1358 A.D. By rawal veer
singh.He was able to beat the field dungria bhil
chief whose name on the name of this place
dungarpur.In 1818 the east india company took
possession of it. Dungarpur this place was the
capital of the princely state .Som and mahi
rivers flowing through here and it bnswadha
render from udaipur .Mountains in dungarpur town
called different of animal and birds .Dungapur
particular style of architecture ,which is know
for its palaces and other historical building can
be seen it is the administrative headquarters
of dungarpur district. The rail line
between udaipur and Ahmedabad in Gujarat runs
through the town, shortest distance to the
national highway 8 from dungarpur town is 20 km.

  • Dungarpur is a city in the southernmost part of
    Rajasthan state of India. It is the
    administrative headquarters of Dungarpur
    District. The rail line between Udaipur and
    Ahmedabad in Gujarat runs through the town,
    shortest distance to the National Highway 8 from
    Dungapur town is 20 km.

History- Dungarpur is the seat of the elder
branch of the sisodiyas  of  udaipur .
the seat of the younger branch is that of the
maharana of mewer. It was founded in 1358 A.D. By
rawal veer singh, the eldest son of the ruler of
mewer, karan singh  they are descendants of bappa
rawal,The chiefs of dungarpur, who bear the
title of maharawal, are descended from mahup, the
eldest son of karan singh, a chief of mewer in
the 12th century, and claim the honours of the
elder line of mewer. Mahup, disinherited by his
father, took refuge with his mother's family,
the chauhans of bagar, and made himself lord of
that country at the expense of the bhil chiefs.

  • The town of Dungarpur, the capital of the state,
    was founded towards the end of the 14th century
    by his descendant, Rawal Bir Singh,the Sixth
    descendant of Sawant Singh of Mewer, who named it
    after Dungaria, an independent Bhil chieftain whom
    he had ordered assassinated. After the death of
    Rawal Udai Singh of Bagar at the Battle of
    Khanwa in 1527, where he fought alongside Rana
    Sanga against Babar, his territories were divided
    into the states of Dungarpur and Banswara. Success
    ively under Mughal,Maratha, and British
    Raj control by treaty in 1818, it remained a
    15-gun salute state In 1901 the total population
    of Dungarpur was 100,103, while that of the town
    was 6094. The last princely ruler of Dungarpur
    was HH Rai-i-Rayan Maharawal Shri Lakshman Singh
    Bahadur (19181989), who was awarded
    the KCSI (1935) and GCIE (1947), and after
    independence became a Member of the Rajya
    Sabha twice, in 1952 and 1958, and later a member
    of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 1962
    and 1989.

    In 2011, Dungarpur had population of 1,388,552
    of which male and female were 696,532 and 692,020
    respectively. In 2001 census, Dungarpur had a
    population of 1,107,643 of which males were
    547,791 and remaining 559,852 were females. In
    the previous census of India 2001, Dungarpur
    District recorded increase of 22.46 percent to
    its population compared to 1991.

Adivasi tribe
  • The area of Dungarpur district was occupied by
    the Bhil people perhaps as early as 4000 BCE. But

    city. There is second largest community
    of Patidar. It was invaded by Rajputs in the 12th
    century. Dungarpur State was founded in 1197 by
    Samant Singh, a Rajput prince from Mewer, but
    Rajput control over the area took
    centuries. Bagar or Vargar was the name the
    Rajputs gave to the area of Dungarpur
    and Banswara districts. The Bhil people remained
    the major ethnic group in the district during
    Rajput rule, and under the British Raj formed the
    core of the military and police.There are 300
    villages and people of that villages have best

Juna mahal
  • Juna Mahal Made of white stone castle built in
    the 13th century was the Satmnjila. Given the
    immensity of this castle appears more fort. Its
    nickname is the old castle. The castle was built
    when the people broke the Mewar dynasty had
    established his kingdom here. The palace, built
    in the outskirts of the movement were built for

Introduction of Dungarpur Museum
A newly made museum named "Rajmata Devendra Kunwar State Museum and Cultural Centre, Dungarpur" was opened in the year 1988 to the public.The statue gallery of the museum throws light on the history of Vagad Pradesh that was spread over the present areas of Dungarpur, Banswara and tehsil Kherwara of Udaipur district. Dungarpur museum is an ideal example and evidence of rich culture and past of Dungarpur. Dungarpur Museum depicts a rich mythological heritage of Dungarpur. Important attractions of the museum are old historical objects, stone inscriptions, metal statues, coins, paintings, sculptures of various deities depicting the glimpses of ancient civilization and Vagad culture which truly enthrall the visitor. Inside the museum there are 3 galleries. All the antiques and exhibits which were collected from various parts of Vagad area are displayed in the first gallery of the museum. Various exhibits of this museum dates back to 6th century.

Galiakot is a census town in dungarpur
district of rajasthan, india. It is situated
about 150 km southeast of the rajasthan city of
udaipur and is a dawoodi bohra pilgrimage site.
The town is famous for the tomb of babjee moula
sayedi fakhruddin shaheedwho lived there in the
10th century. Many dawoodi bohra muslims visit
the tomb each year to pay homage.
