1
COMPUTER HARDWARE NETWORKING
2
Elements of Computer System-
  • A computer system consists of two major elements
    Hardware and Software.
  •  Hardware is the collection of all the parts you
    can physically touch.
  • Software, on the other hand, is not something you
can touch. Software is a set of instructions for
a computer to perform specific operations.

3
Objectives
  • Role of hardware.
  • Describe hardware components, and explain each
    component.
  • Features of networking

4
Hardware Components of Computer -
  1. C.P.U.
  2. CARDS
  3. MOTHER BOARD
  4. RAM

5
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
  • Component of CPU
  • Arithmetic Logic Unit- ALU ALU performs
    arithmetic logical operations.
  • Control Unit- cu CU extracts instructions
    from memory and decodes and
executes them, calling the ALU when necessary.

6
CARDS
  • Graphic Card
  • Video Card
  • Sound Card

7
MOTHER BOARD
8
RAM
  • RAM is a semiconductor that stores charges with
    transistors and capacitors.
  • Dynamic RAM (DRAM) -
  • Most popular type of electronic memory in the PC
    world.
  • Static RAM (SRAM)- very expensive does not have
    to be refreshed.

PAN
  • A personal area network (PAN) is the
    interconnection of information technology devices
within the range of an individual person,
typically within a range of 10 meters

11
LAN
  • A local area network (LAN) is a computer network
that interconnects computers within a limited
area such as a home, school, computer laboratory,
or office building, using network media.

12
MAN
  • A metropolitan area network (MAN) is a network
that interconnects users with computer resources
in a geographic area or region larger than that
covered by even a large local area network (LAN)
but smaller than the area covered by a wide area
    network (WAN).

13
WAN
  • A wide area network (WAN) is a network that
covers a broad area (i.e., any telecommunications
network that links across metropolitan, regional,
    national or international boundaries) using
    leased telecommunication lines.
