Title: A Timeline for Moving
1A Time- line for Moving
2Planning on moving house but got no idea what you
should be doing? Dont panic, thats a common
thing to happen, especially for first time
buyers! Obviously, there are a lot of things that
you need to consider and it can be particularly
difficult if you have a big family and even pets
to also sort out. We understand this, thats why
we have made a timeline for the process of
moving house, including before and after the
move. Two Months Before The Move... You might
think that two months is a long time but it isnt
at all, time flies when you are very busy! At
this stage, you should be starting the packing
and clearing out process, have a clear out of old
stuff that is no longer wanted, at the end of
the day moving house is the perfect opportunity
for a fresh start. If you are moving with
children, then this is also the stage that you
need to find new schools for your children and
arrange for them to transfer their school
records. Moving house requires a lot of time and
dedication, especially with children, so we
highly recommend that you book time of work
either side of your move.
3Five Weeks Before The Move... If you are like
most families, then you will find that you will
have a lot of belongings to take with you to
your new house, so at this stage you should hire
a removal company if you dont already have some-
thing planned. When you are booking a van make
sure you get a few quotes beforehand so you are
getting the most out of your money. Paperwork, no
one likes it! But you need to make sure that you
have got all the right information before your
big move. Double check your home insurance and
make sure you are on the best deal, if you are
moving to a smaller house for example then you
might need to re- view the value of your
contents and buildings cover. Three Weeks Before
The Move... 3 weeks before is the sort of time
you need to be looking at the bills that will be
occurring within your phone. Search online to
find the cheapest TV, broadband and phone deals
for your new address and check out the cheapest
energy tariffs. Something that many people seem
to forget is changing your address on existing
bills. You need to update your address on your
TV licence, bank society, driving licence and
any other investments that you have. The
consequences can be quite severe if you dont do
this.
4One Week Before The Move... By now, your
packing should be pretty much done and you should
be starting a thorough clean of your house. Make
sure you consider the things that you will need
on the first night in your new home and have
them packed in an accessible box or suitcase
ready for immedi- ate use. A week before is the
time that you should register your new home with
the council so you can pay your council
tax. The Day Before The Move... Eeeeek, its
the day before your big move! All your packing
should be done by now, so do a final clean where
you might have made a mess in the moving process
and walk throughout your house and make sure you
arent leaving any little possessions behind.
This is particular important if you have young
children, they have a thing of hiding valu-
ables! You might already have your keys by now,
but if not contact the estate agents and arrange
to pick up your keys so your move isnt de-
layed.
5The Day of The Big Move... So the day is
finally here, the big move! Once you have put all
your belongings where you want them to go, and
maybe fit in a cuppa you need to switch
utilities providers and update the electoral
register so you are eligible to vote, this can
be done at GOV.UK. If you have pets or children
make sure you introduce them to their new home
and show them where everything is, so they can
get used to it. Once all of this has been done,
sit back and relax in your new home, because you
deserve it!
