Setting life goals

• Change is an inevitable and necessary part of
  life. Yet, an unexpected transition such as
  moving schools, changing careers, starting a new
  family, can become overwhelming. Over the years,
  I have gone through many transitions just like
  many others and through this journey, I have
  realized that most of the time we do not know how
  to cope with such changes and transitions.

• It also depends on the culture of the family we
  belong to and how open we are for finding help.
   It can be helpful to have a mentor to guide us
  in setting short term and long term life goals.
  Realistic life goals and having the
  accountability with a mentor can be life changing.

• I have learned few different ways and styles for
  goal setting, but SMART goals seems a simple and
  effective way to handle goal management.
• SMART stands for
•          Specific 
•          Measurable 
•          Attainable 
•          Realistic 
•          Timely

• Answering these six W questions can also help
  to be more specific.
• 1.      Who is involved? 
• 2.      What do? ?I? ?want? ?to? ?accomplish? 
• 3.      Where is the location
• 4.      By when do I want to achieve this?
• 5.      Which  ?requirements? ?and?
  ?constraints I may have to consider.
• 6.      Why do I wish to ?accomplish? ?the? ?goal

• How can we differentiate between a general versus
  specific goal? For an example, a general goal
  would be happy marital relationships. However,
  a specific goal would include more? ?listening,?
  ?counseling,? ?and? ?paying? ?attention? ?to?
  ?your? ?partners? ?need? ?.
