Title: Wastewater Treatment Services in Andhra Pradesh

1
  • Lets look at what is a water treatment plant
  • Any machine or equipment that undertakes all or
some of the above processes to provide usable
water can be called as a water treatment plant.
  • The water being treated can be in any of the
    following forms
  • Sewage water
  • Waste water
  • Industrial wastewater

What is Water Treatment Plant?
2
Why is it necessary to treat water Why we
required water treatment plant in the Country,
Cities, States Home?
  • Top 5 countries with the large numbers of people
living without access of safe water.
  • India-7,57,77,997 people
  • china-6,31,66,533 people
  • Nigeria-5,77,57,141 people
  • Ethiopia-4,22,51,031 people
  • Congo-3,39,06,771 people

Water is a limited resource, so we must see how
to reuse it to the max. Treatment of water at
house, building, city and state level is the need
of the hour. Here are some of the key steps to
treat water to make it reusable. This is the need
of the hour especially in developing countries
where life of entire cities and villages are
reliant on getting the right amount and type of
water to use. Lets all decide to minimize the
use of water and vow to recycle it in water plant
machines, or water treatment plant for industrial
as well as regular waste water.
3
Andhra Pradesh (AP), a state in southern India
has been one of the leaders in industrial water
treatment. The water treatment process in
Vishakhapatnam one of the major cities in AP is
one of the best in class treating industrial
waste water as well as waste water. As this city
recognized the importance and necessity of a
water treatment system, the other states are also
taking steps in this area.
4
The question arises can we not just create more
water as per our need? If only it were that
simple. Is water created newly every time there
is a chemical reaction or is it just recycled in
the water cycle? There are debates going on about
whether the water we have today is older than the
dinosaurs... but thats a different topic for a
different blog. So, what is that the states and
cities need to do? Well for starters, lets
understand if we can reuse water by treating it
in some way.
5
Anywhere in the world you go, the water treatment
process will primarily have the following steps-
  • Coagulation
  • It is the process of adding a coagulant to the
water to destabilize the suspended particles. It
is a chemical process in which the charge of the
    particles in water is neutralized.
  • Flocculation
  • It is on the other hand a physical process in
which certain polymers are added to the water so
that the suspended particles come together to
form a larger lump that can be easily removed
through a process of separation like sieving or
    filtration.
  • Sedimentation
  • In this process the water flows through
sedimentation basins very slowly and the large
floc particles settle down at the bottom due to
its weight. The collected floc is called as
    sludge.

6
  • Filtration
  • The water further flows through a filter designed
to remove suspended water impurities. The filters
are made of sand, gravel and in some cases
anthracite. It is an important process and
further enhances the next process of
    disinfection.
  • Disinfection
  • Using chlorine, the water is disinfected to
remove disease causing bacteria, viruses and
parasites after which the water is fed into the
distribution system. Depending on the hardness of
the water another pH value adjustment may take
place to ensure the distribution system does not
    corrode or rust with time.

Following these processes, the Vishakhapatnam
water treatment plant has successfully reused
water to a large extent. See at more here
