Productivity and employee comfort go
hand-in-hand. The more is employee satisfaction
rate, the higher the productivity will be. It has
been seen many times that a slight change in the
workplace design, such as ambiance, furniture,
wallpapers, lightning etc. boost up the levels of
endorphin(the happy hormone) in the employees to
a great level. And it goes without saying that a
happy employee is good for business. Technology
has bestowed us with concepts like Work from
home/ Work from anywhere, and in the midst of
all this, the office space has lost its charm.

  • 1. Comfort, Comfort, Comfort
  • The simplest way to help employees is to make
    them as comfortable as possible. There are many
    areas where organizations fail to provide comfort
    to their employees, to name a few
  • Inadequate work space
  • Comfortable furniture
  • Inadequate light
  • Collaboration tools
  • 2. Control over work environment
  • Everyone appreciates a little control over their
    own work environment. It makes a person feel good
    about himself/ herself. It gives meaning to their
    work, making them feel that they are an important
    part of their organization. It may include
    personalized desk, lightning options, temperature
    control, and collaborative meeting rooms.

  • Privacy is one of those factors which sometimes
    brings out the best from the employees. It
    happens quite a lot that with increasing work
    pressure and expectations, stress builds up.
    Privacy, in such instances might help an
    individual to let go off some steam. While team
    efforts solves most of the problems in an
    organization, sometimes its privacy that helps an
    individual to bring out the best in them.
  • 4. Noise
  • It is important to encourage quiet workspaces
    while designing an office. Providing employees
    with a noise free and quiet work area will help
    them to maintain focus.

  • Workplace design has become a much referred
    buzzword when it comes to enhancing employee
    performance and reducing attrition. Here are few
    design consideration that one can
    incorporate while designing a workspace.
  • The Thermal Comfort Maintaining the right
    combination of temperature, airflow, and
    humidity.
  • Integrated Technology Workplace that integrate
    technology are much preferred. With concepts like
    BYOD and Virtual Reality, technology plays an
    important role in workplace design
  • Power Data Driven workspaces We all need power
    and data to work today. A little attention to
    this might bring a great difference to employees.
  • Collaboration Tools These tools make life
    easier. Tools like Skype reduce the overhead of
    traveling from employees.

  • Choice Right to choose, where they work, how
    they work, and if possible when they work.
  • Employee Engagement Employees are highly
    productive when engaged in the work they find
    interesting and with people they like to work
    with.
  • Community Encouraging informal interactions by
    organizing workspaces as neighborhoods
  • To conclude the idea of designing a workspace
    should be based on reducing stress, anxiety,
    worry, and apathy.
