Title: Neglect and Seniors Abuse Cases in Toronto, Ontario

1
Neglect and Seniors Abuse Cases in Toronto,
Ontario Neglect and seniors abuse cases in
Toronto are, unfortunately, not uncommon. Nursing
homes and long-term care facilities are being
sued. As a matter of fact, back in 2011, the
Toronto Star Report asked the industry to set
and task force to stop seniors abuse. Several
cases of abuse in such types facilities came to
light, and they included cases of beatings,
neglect and even rape. Moreover, according to the
report residents were being routinely abused or
neglected in many of the licensed nursing homes
in Ontario. From a total of 627 licensed nursing
homes, a vast majority of them are located in
Toronto. Nursing homes and long-term care
facilities in Toronto can be sued for
compensation after neglect, abuse or death. Among
the possible causes that allow a sue the most
common are non- proper supervision of the senior
residents, failure to prevent injuries, failure
to send to seek outer medical care to the senior
residents in need of medical treatment, and
physical or sexual assault. Personal injury
lawyers in Toronto will help you find out if you
might be entitled to sue if one of your family
members has suffered any type of injuries or has
been killed as a result of abuse or neglect at
the nursing home or long-term care facility. You
or that person could be entitled to receive
monetary compensation from the related
facility. Why is it important to consult with
personal injury lawyers in Toronto? Because they
are fully aware of the laws and regulations that
apply in that area. Back in 2007, the Ontarios
Long-Term Care Homes Act came into force. Its
central principle states that long-term care
homes are primarily the homes of the residents
and have to be operated in such a way that they
get to be places where residents can live with
dignity, safety, in security and comfortably
while having their physical, psychological, and
social spiritual and cultural needs adequately
met. According to the law, facilities have the
duty of ensuring that every suspected, alleged or
witnessed neglect or incident of abuse by anyone
be investigated right away. Such investigation
must be informed to the Ministry of Health within
a period of maximum ten days. Many times senior
victims of neglect or abuse are afraid to sue.
Therefore, and to protect this weak sector of the
population, it is important that family members
remain observant and if neglect or abuse is
suspected, give full support to the victim while
immediately presenting the situation to any of
the many specialized personal injury lawyers in
Toronto. Your attorney will examine your case and
determine if, under the local laws, your senior
family member or you are entitled to receive any
monetary compensation. Source
