Title: Why Use Cementing Plugs For Well?

1
Why Use Cementing Plugs For Well?
2
The production designers at the recent times are
quite developed and well read, they are
knowledgeable to understand the consequences of
temperature during the drilling process. Earlier
the engineers used to deny the consequences of
temperature as the constant bottomhole flowing
temperature throughout the production tubing.
3
It present, deepwater wells are encountering a
lot of extreme temperature and pressure
conditions which is one of the key reasons to
such dirt. According to the professionals, one
should maintain the wells temperature but that
is quite difficult to do as predicting
circulating temperature is more critical due to
weak formations and Cementing Plugs will provide
the presence of risers and choke/kill/boost lines.
4
Why Use Cementing?
Cementing is used for a number of reasons but
primarily to protect and seal the wellbore. It
prevents the preventing water penetration into
the well and immobilizing the casing. Deepwater
drilling and high pressure/high temperature wells
have had a change of perspective in
engineers. Cementing Plugs are also used in areas
where there is a reduction of flow within a well
and it can extend to plugging a well for
abandonment.
5
Plugs are used during cementing operations to
help remove dispersed mud and mud sheath from the
casing inner diameter. It minimizes the
contamination of cement and wipes any remaining
dispersed mud from the inner diameter of the
casing as it moves down the string. The effect of
temperature on cementing has long been recognized
and the recent professionals always keep that in
mind because the correct determination of
retarder can be critical.
6
How Does It Work?
Using a bottom plug, cement slurry, a top plug
and drill mud, the cement is pumped down in the
casing pipe. The pressure of the drill mud forces
in moving the cement slurry through casing, fills
the space between outside the casing and the
hole. Then, the cement is given some time to get
hardened and after testing the hardness,
alignment and a proper seal, it is declared to be
completed.
7
Some Precautions During
The Process
.The water density is not particularly sensitive
to temperature and pressure, the extensive use of
water-based drilling fluids is efficient. The
surface-measured mud weight does not vary much in
conventional wells, though the oil-based or
synthetic oil-based muds are very sensitive to
temperature and pressure. .The intermediate-string
cementing is focused on achieving a great cement
job and drilling and it is not an issue of
temperature and pressure.
8
To get the high wiping efficiency, the top and
bottom cementing plugs are designed to remove
mudcake, mud film, rust and mill scale during
cementing operations. Innovative design enhances
drill-out efficiency to submit non-rotating
cementing bottom plugs. The subsurface Cementing
Plug System is used remotely to release cementing
plugs at a selected subsurface depth.
9
When the bottom plug seats at the float collar,
it allows the cement to flow through and turn the
corner at the bottom of the hole or toe end of a
horizontal well. It helps in filling the annular
space between the casing and the formation.
