Introduction

• The term sciatica describes the symptoms of pain
  in the legs and possibly tingling, numbness or
  weakness that originate from the lower back and
  move through the buttocks and down the large
  sciatic nerve at the back Of the leg.
• Sciatica (pronounced sigh-at-ih-kah) is not a
  medical diagnosis per se it is a symptom of an
  underlying medical condition, such as a lumbar
  hernia, degenerative disc disease or stenosis

• The Course of Sciatica Pain
• The incidence of sciatica increases in average
  age.
• Rarely before the age of 20, does the probability
  of experiencing peak of sciatic pain in the 50s
  and then decreases.
• Often, a particular event or injury does not
  cause sciatica, but rather it develops over time.
