In gestational surrogacy, a woman carries and
gives birth to a baby on behalf of someone else.
The woman carrying the baby is referred to as the
gestational carrier or gestational surrogate. The
parents who will receive their baby through this
surrogate are called intended parents. They will

pregnancy and child birth.
In this type of surrogacy the gestational carrier
is not related to the baby. The egg and sperm are
both harvested from the intended parents. Through
in vitro fertilization or IVF, eggs from the

You will begin the process by having a
consultation with a fertility counsellor to

Do you prefer a friend or family member or would

Screening Process

have to undergo certain medical and psychological

Undergo IVF
You and your spouse must undergo IVF to create a
viable embryo. In IVF, there are five cycles
syncing cycles, producing eggs, fertilization,
transfer of the embryos, followed by implantation
and then pregnancy.
The time period for Gestational Surrogacy
Finding a willing and healthy mother may take
years and even months. Once the agreement is
finalized and the treatment has started, it may
take up to four IVF cycles to achieve a
pregnancy. This is because a single IVF cycle
takes up to 6 weeks.
