Title: Varicose Veins Treatment Procedures - USA Vein Clinics

Different Procedures to Treat Varicose Veins

Veins that appear swollen, twisted and enlarged
under the skin are varicose veins, caused due to
the weakening of vein valves and vein walls. This
condition causes the blood to pool, stretching
the vein and causing it to swell and protrude
through the skin. The veins can cause itchiness
and pain.

4
Sclerotherapy
Under this treatment, a saline solution is
injected into the vein, which causes it to scar
thereby forcing blood to flow through healthy
veins. The affected veins are then absorbed into
local tissue and eventually disappear. The
treatment is highly recommended as it eliminates
varicose veins with no pain and downtime.
5
Phlebectomy
This treatment is also known as vein stripping.
It is basically a slightly invasive procedure
that uses a small scalpel or needle for removal
of the varicose veins appearing on the surface of
the skin of legs. During this treatment, a
physician makes small cuts near the damaged vein
to remove the entire vein. This treatment
generally is carried out together with other
veins removal procedure like thermal ablation.
6
Thermal Ablation
Thermal ablation, also known as radiofrequency
ablation, involves using laser or radio frequency
energy at approximately 200 degrees to heat the
inside walls of the veins. This destroys the vein
wall, causing it to shrink, and the body absorbs
it gradually over time.
7
Non-Thermal Ablation
Two non-thermal techniques Varithna and
VenaSeal system have been approved by the Food
and Drug Administration (FDA) in November 2013
and February 2015, respectively. The first
treatment uses medicated foam to destroy the vein
permanently, whereas the latter one uses a glue
to shut off the affected vein.
