Lets begin with the history of Tally

• Mr. Shyam Sunder Goenka, Co-founder of Tally,
  left his place Kolkata and started his textile
  business in Bangalore. He was finding to much
  difficulty in managing his accounts and wanted a
  bit simplified and automated way out to manage
  business accounts. He suggested his son Bharat
  Goenka to develop such a software.
• Thereafter Mr. Bharat Goenka, the existing
  Managing Director of the company developed easy
  but basic featured software and named it as
  Peutronics Financial Accountants. The name
  later in 1988 was changed to Tally.

TALLY 4.5

• This was the very first version of tally which
  was supported by only MS-DOS.Basic accounting for
  small scaled business was supported with the help
  of Tally 4.5. The system was quite fast and easy
  but particular predefined commands were used to
  operate tally and all those commands were needed
  to be memorized. This was the only limitation
  which lead to the development of the next version
  Tally 5.
