Title: How to select a PTE Course
1How to select a PTE Course
As the popularity of PTE Academic has increased,
so has the number of PTE course options for
prospective students. From free YouTube videos
to traditional classroom courses to online
course, there are a number of options available
for the students now. While each option provides
some specific benefits one needs to carefully
think and
plan before signing up for a PTE course.
2Giving the PTE exam is a huge investment of time
and money. You will be spending several days,
weeks or months preparing for the exam. The
exam fees in itself are quite significant. It
therefore makes sense to consider all aspects
before signing up for a PTE course. Ask
yourself these questions before you enrol for a
PTE course 1. What study materials are provided
as part of the course? Some institutes will
only provide you photo copies of various PTE
Academic books but some will give you their own
developed learning materials. Getting free
photocopied books might seem like a good
option
after
all
it
will
save
you
a
bit
of
3money, but if you look deeply it indicates that
the institute or the teacher has not invested
enough time studying the PTE. If they had, they
would have developed their own study
materials. So, always ask them if their learning
materials are original. Of course, it is
equally important to check what all is included
in the study materials. How many practice
questions are provided? Are notes provided for
each and every question type? 2. Do you have
access to a Teacher? In the first instant, it
may seem like that attending a traditional
classroom will give you unlimited access to a
teacher to talk to
and get feedback from. However, nothing
4could be further from the truth. The classroom
courses will have teachers but they will be too
busy managing dozens of students in a crowded
classroom to have any time to give personal
attention to their students. This is where a
PTE Online Course is very transparent. They will
tell you at the outset what level of contact and
how many contact hours will you receive from the
teacher. 3. What is the experience level of the
Teachers? It is important to know more about
the people behind the course. Since PTE is a
newer exam compared to IELTS a lot of teachers
are ones who gave their own PTE
exam
a
while
ago
and
took
to
teaching
5because they couldn't find another job. Are
these the kind of people you want to learn
from? Your teachers must have at least a few
years of PTE or IELTS teaching experience. They
must not be just English language experts but
they should be PTE language experts. A good way
to ascertain this is to look at their footprint
on YouTube. If they are professional PTE
teachers they will have significant resources
uploaded on YouTube. That will give you an
indication of their teaching style as well as
tell you how genuine the course offering is. 4.
What kind of practice resources are
provided? Some coaching institutes and
online
courses
will
provide
you
with
printed
6materials or an eBook and expect you to treat it
like the real exam. However, a far better option
to take these tests in software similar to the
PTE. Does your online course include that? Make
sure that your online course includes plenty of
hands on practice and full length mock tests.
The course should also have the option of
getting in-depth teacher feedback if needed. 5.
What is the duration of the course? When you are
signing up for a course you must make sure that
it is of the right duration to suit you. You do
not want to sign up for a one week course if you
can afford one month for preparation.
Similarly, there is no point signing up for
an unlimited classes course when you are
7reasonable confident of taking the exam and
getting the score you want in a month's
time. At the minimum, the course should be long
enough for you to review all sections and
question types and get the feedback from
teachers if needed. The course must not end more
than a day or two before your exam day. Even if
your last class ends a week before the exam day
makes sure you have access to learning materials
till the exam day. 6. What is the real cost of
the course? Everything comes at a cost. But you
must also consider the hidden costs before you
sign up for a course. If you are traveling to a
training institute you will be spending
something on the transport. You will also
8be taking out time from your work or studies to
attend one of the classroom courses. All of this
has a cost which we dont usually consider. If
on the other hand you are taking an online
course you will save on travel and will study
only when you are free which means you wont
have to adjust your schedule and take time off
work to attend the classes. Of course, you must
compare the actual course fees and what is
included as part of that course fee. Only then
you will know the real cost of a course. So, by
all means go for a PTE course. It can be one of
the best investments you will ever make.
However, make sure that you consider all these
factors to avoid disappointment in the end.
