• What is Renal Ultrasound used for?
• A renal ultrasound is used to
  evaluate the urinary tract, kidneys, ureters, and
  the urinary bladder. In the male patient it can
  also be used to check the prostate gland and
  seminal vesicles. Ultrasound can detect cysts,
  tumors, abscesses, obstructions, fluid
  collection, and infection within or around the
  kidneys. Calculi (stones) of the kidneys and
  ureters may be detected by ultrasound.

• How does it work?
• The ultra sound sends waves using a
  transducer that cannot be heard. The sound of the
  waves bounces of the organs like resembling an
  echo and then returns back to the transducer.
  These waves are then converted into an image of
  the organ or the tissues being examined by the
  computer.

• How to prepare for a renal ultrasound?
• Remove jewelry clothes or any other things that
  might interfere with the scan
• You are dressed in a flowy and comfortable gown
• You will be asked to your lie down on your
  stomach and the ultrasound gel is applied to your
  body
• The Transducer, the device which sends
  ultrasound wanes will be sent into the patients
  body
• The sound waves will reflect the images of your
  organs and these will be stored digitally to
  undergo examination
