Title: EUTHANASIA ESSAYS

1
EUTHANASIA
  • What is Euthanasia?.

2
What is Euthanasia
  • This implies to termination of the life of a
gravely ill person they may spare his suffering
at his/her explicit request. Recently it has been
referred to as a mercy killing. Oxford
    Dictionary (2nd edition 1989) gives it A
    gentle and easy death
  • Merciful killing can be exercised when the sick
person requests but at times they might be unable
    to though still exercised.

3
Cont.
  • Different communities and religions have
different views. They feel humans have right to
decide when and how to die. Buddhist view it as
a way of changing the self so that create a
desirable quality kind of wisdom and awareness.
  • We can, therefore, classify euthanasia as

4
Categories of Euthanasia
5
Active Euthanasia
  • Causing direct death of a person through one's
request. The death of the critically ill Michigan
patient In 1998 lays a good example.
  • Most people will prefer this End of life option
so as prevent suffer suffering, depart life
still in their mental capacity and some believe
its a way to keep their dignity.

6
Passive euthanasia.
  • This is death caused by nature where one is under
no support either medical, respiratory, food or
    any other form of support.
  • Use of pain killers to suppress pain and hasten
death can also be seen as ethical to some of the
    medical societies, and political jurisdictions.
  • They prefer these practices for the terminally
ill person to quicken their natural death.

7
Physician-Assisted /voluntary-passive suicide.
  • . This a hybrid of the two. In this, the
physician offers an alternative to the ill person
so as to terminate their life Doctors will assist
in the withdraw of life treatments so as to
hasten their death. They provide the best
    alternatives way to death.

8
Involuntary Euthanasia
  • This is killing without one's explicit request.
It mostly occurs in persons who are in a
continued chronical state that cannot be
    recovered.

9
Societal view on Euthanasia
  • Different societies have conflicting views on
these forms of euthanasia. Buddhism for
instance, they forbid taking the life of some one
    intentionally thus forbidding voluntary
euthanasia. According to them, death brings a
rebirth of another new life and the quality of
the next life will be determined by the karma.
Therefore shortening their life meddles with
    karmas working.

  • Consequently, through mediations and enlighten,
to create awareness on how life ends, in relation
to how the next new life, gives room for
voluntary euthanasia. Others who do not have this
enlightenment should not practice it since it is
perceived they might have preferred It out of
    selflessness, fear, or anger.

11
Cont.
  • On the other hand, the Christian society believe
that none of this practices are ethical since,
  • the life of human resembles Gods image
and we have no made to terminate,
  • being part of the community and
co-joined together, therefore, we are not
autonomous to make any personal decision since
    it affects others.
  • They avoid the risk of assisted murders.
