The Importance of Packaging Food Products
2
  • Food packaging is the most effective and reliable
method of food containment. It is the best
reliable way of extending the shelf life of the
product while protecting it from harmful
environmental effects. It saves the products from
physical damage, and also seals it so as to
prevent the product inside from coming into
contact with the pollutants and bacteria in the
atmosphere. In todays world of mass production
automated food packing machine is the best way of
packaging food items as it is much faster than
manually packaging, also it is much more
reliable, accurate and reduces cost as well. The
    food packaging machine manufacturers provide
various types of packaging machines suitable for
    different types of products.

  • Packaging has evolved a lot from serving the
purpose of just containing the product to
differentiating a product is several ways. With
consumers getting more and more conscious about
    the environmental and social impacts,
eco-friendly packaging have become more popular
and in demand. A lot of science and consideration
goes into choosing a particular type of
packaging, it has almost become a strategic
    decision for the manufacturers.
  • Here are certain points to showcase the
    importance of packaging.f
  • Protection against contamination. The air
around us is home to micro-organisms that are
    responsible for degrading any bio-product.

4
  • Packaging is done to eliminate air from the
package and then it is sealed to prevent it from
coming into contact with the atmosphere.
Consequently, the product within the package has
a lower rate of degradation and thereby its shelf
life is extended. MNCs and large companies use
even more rigorous packaging solutions. For
example, juices, milk, etc. and packed in tetra
packs that are made up of layers of paper,
aluminum, and polyethylene. Such packaging keeps
the product safe from bacteria and other
contaminants and keeps the product for a much
    longer period of time.

5
  • Protection from physical damage. Packaging is
also needed to maintain the integrity of the
product until it is delivered to the end
consumers. Products need to be shipped and
transported from one place to another and it has
to be made sure that it reaches at the hand of
the consumers in whole rather than in pieces.
Bubble wraps, cartons, thermocol, etc. are used
in packaging to provide such resistance.
  • Prevention of product leaking and spilling.
Proper packaging is important to prevent leakage
and spills during transportation or while
handling the products. It is important to ensure
that the package is properly sealed from all
    sides and are resilient.

6
  • Product branding and labeling. Packaging
nowadays is much more than just protection of
products. Its important for branding the product
so it can be identified easily and also to
provide important information about the product
to the consumers. Almost all food products
contains on the package nutritional facts about
the products, where it was manufactured and
packaged and also the date of manufacture so that
it can be consumed before the expiry date.

7
  • Marketing. Marketers frequently come up with
innovative packaging ideas to attract more
customers. Package is the first thing that the
consumer observes, the product is revealed only
after purchase. So it is important that the
package is attractive and is different from other
    similar products.
