Islands holidays have always been a staple
winter getaway, with guaranteed sunshine and
beautiful landscapes, they are a perfect
destination for everyone. So which one to choose?
Each one has its own unique personality so its
worth exploring the unique characteristics of
each Whichever you choose the Canary
Islands are guaranteed to provide a mixed bag of
adventure, relaxation and most importantly,
beautiful and well deserved sunshine.

Tenerife
Tenerife is truly an island for everyone. If you
are looking for beautiful beaches, fun family
holidays, relaxing retreats or golfers paradise
Tenerife is a front runner. Plentiful calm sandy
beaches, unique rural villages, diverse
landscapes and a dramatic volcano all add to the
wealth of beauty on offer. Sometimes
misunderstood by its mass tourism label it can
come as a surprise to some that Tenerife has so
much more. Tenerife is the most popular and
largest of the Canary Islands surrounding a
dramatic 3718m volcano named mount Teide, the
tallest mountain in Spain. For a luxury beach
holiday look no further than Costa Adeje, this
upmarket area of the south boasts some of the
most stunning and luxury hotels in the Canary
Islands. Holiday makers need not look too far for
a huge display of designer shops, sophisticated
restaurants and amusing family activities. Its
neighbours La Caleta and Guia de Isora offer a
more slow paced side of the upmarket south but
for excellent nightlife and family
activities Playa De las Americas is more suitable
and can also offer a more affordable
south. North Tenerife offers a whole bag of
treasures waiting to be discovered by those
adventurous enough to leave the south. Experience
the local life in rural villages or dance like a
local in Santa Cruz with its festivals and local
eateries. Dont miss a visit to the dramatic
cliffs and clear waters of Garachico and taste
some of Tenerifes finest cuisine.
4
Fuerteventura
Surfers, beach bums and sports lovers look no
further. If you are looking for miles and miles
of unrivalled white sand beaches Fuerteventura is
perfect for you. The youthful Fuerteventura is
the Canary Islands second largest island. Its
desert-esque landscape gives it an untouched feel
before reaching the coast where dramatic
glistening turquoise waters attract beach lovers
worldwide and the refreshing Atlantic breeze
attracts windsurfers alike. Corralejo and Jandia
boast extensive white sandy beaches with a cool
ocean breeze for a relaxing beach holiday and the
local Baku waterpark offers and excellent day out
for families. Costa Calma invites excellent night
life and great shopping and the resort Caleta de
Fuste offers a popular tourist resort with lovely
palm shaded streets.
5
Gran Canaria
Another island that is perfect for everyone is
Gran Canaria, the third largest of the
Canary Island but second most populous. This
island is particularly popular with families and
hikers and is best described by its cliché a
continent in miniature. It offers diverse
landscapes ranging from dramatic mountains
steeping down to stunning golden sand dunes. Lush
green forests give way to tranquil retreats and
impressive golf courses yet exciting towns give
vibrant nightlife and local culture. Excellent
for shopping and exploring the beautiful
marina Las Palmas is the islands capital city
which also features a beautiful sandy beach. Find
sophisticated restaurants and beautiful hotels in
the resort of Maspalomas or its stylish next door
neighbour Costa Meloneras. The picturesque resort
of Puerto De Mogan offers a prettier and more
charming side, perfect for a more romantic
retreat.
6
Lanzarote
For an unspoilt retreat and a volcanic adventure
Lanzarote is perfect for a quieter family holiday
or a relaxing couples getaway. Moon style
landscapes and the unmissable national park rival
a sci-fi movie scene and create a dreamlike
location that will leave you speechless. Its
strange landscapes and devastating volcanic
eruptions give it a very young history meaning
local cuisine is more based on surrounding
islands and Spanish Tapas. Its history is
dominated by the much loved Cesar Manrique who
encouraged the gentle introduction of tourism
resulting in a lack of high rise building and
over built resorts. For families and
couples Puerto Del Carmen boasts a famous sandy
beach paired with a lively resort packed with
shops and restaurants. Its upmarket sister Playa
Blanca is a more pretty and sophisticated resort
showing up its younger sister with a beautiful
mountainous backdrop and upmarket
eateries. Puerto Calero is perfect for couples
who can relax at the marina and soak up the
sunshine on its beautiful sandy beach. For a more
diverse resort good for everyone Teguise is the
old capital of Lanzarote, a delightful
pedestrianised town with plenty of shops and a
popular Sunday street market.
7
La Gomera
This fairy tale island has well earned its
strange title the island that time forgot. Its
enchanting forests and mysterious landscapes make
it a perfect holiday destination for those
looking for something new or simply a peaceful
beach escape. The island features lovely beaches,
exciting hiking trails and jaw dropping scenery
to make you feel like a true explorer without
losing holiday comforts. Just minutes off the
ferry and you are driving across dramatic ravines
and taking in breath taking sea views. Dont
forget to pack your walking boots as the true
treasures are discovered on foot. Playa de
Santiago is a quiet fishing village and a perfect
base for exploring the island, its laidback vibe
make it a perfect tranquil retreat. The
capital San Sebastion is just next door, no
different to its surroundings the capital of La
Gomera is a peaceful town based around its
port. Valley Gran Rey is a more popular resort on
the west coast made up of a collection of many
towns which sit on the mountain gently sloping in
to the sea.
8
La Palma
For an un-commercialised paradise. Perfect for a
unique experience packed with jaw dropping
scenery, lush green tropical forests and dreamy
views of the stars. La Palma really is the most
pretty of the Canary Islands. Its landscapes make
it perfect for visitors looking for beautiful
walks and breath-taking scenery. Less known for
its beaches it does feature the most dramatic
volcanic black sand beaches making it an
excellent beach destination too. This beautiful
island is a UNESCO biosphere reserve packed with
activities and volcanic terrain. Tazacorte Is
one of the warmest places on La Palma, this
historic village has excellent transport links to
the capital for an exciting day out. Brena
Baja is a tranquil resort on the east coast with
a wealth of shops and restaurants. For a more
lively resort (in La Palma standards) Puerto
Naus is a beach resort boasting the longest beach
in La Palma, but for a real peaceful
retreat Fuencaliente is a small and pretty
village located on the south of the island.
9
El Hierro
For a complete retreat the magical and mysterious
island of El Hierro is just 278 km squared. This
small island is packed with lush forests, strange
ancient settlements and giant lizards. It is a
strange island sitting to the most south west of
the Canary Islands. Very much less visited than
its sister islands it is visited mostly for its
superb diving and beautiful rolling hills.
However with no international airport and a three
hour ferry journey visitor numbers remain quite
low.
