Title: Hologram Technology

1
Hologram Technology
2
What is a 3D hologram
  • A 3D hologram is defined as a 3D projection that
exists freely in space and is visible to everyone
without the need for 3D glasses

3
To display a 3D hologram
  • Three things are usually required to display a 3D
    hologram.
  • A hologram projector
  • A 3D hologram
  • A real object or product

4
History of holography
  • 1947 Dennis Gabor developed the
    theory of Holography
  • 1960 Pulsed ruby laser development
  • 1962 White light reflection
    hologram
  • 1983 Master card first credit card
    to use hologram
  • 2009 Interactive holographic
    display
  • 2010 Moving 3D Holograms developed

5
The Transmission Hologram
  • The coherent light from the laser is split to
form two beams an object beam and a reference
    beam.
  • The light from the illuminated object and the
reference beam form an interference pattern  on
    the film.

6
The Transmission Hologram
  • This pattern hologram contains the information
about the object which can then be viewed as
    a three dimensional image.

7
Viewing a Transmission Hologram
  • The image is captured in the  interference
    pattern on the film.
  • The image can be reconstructed for viewing by
shining the coherent light of a  laser on the
    hologram.

8
Viewing a Transmission Hologram
  • The eye is focused behind the film to see the
image suspended in space which shows the
    unique characteristics of holographic images.
  • The diverged laser beam should be placed in the
same orientation with respect to the film as the
reference beam which was used to make the
    hologram.

9
Viewing a Transmission Hologram
  • Then the image will be seen in the same position
as the original object with respect to the film.
  • It is as if the light from the object was frozen
in the film, and then continues to your eye when
    reconstructed with the laser light.
