Prostate Cancer Overview
Prostate is a gland present in male reproductive
system and when the cancer affects this portion,
it is known as carcinoma of the prostate. Some
tumors grow slowly and some develop rapidly.
These cancer cells not only affect prostate gland
but after a while it spreads in the entire body,
especially in the bones and lymph nodes.

Biopsy and ultrasound are the methods for
diagnosing Prostate Cancer. These are done to
evaluate and confirm the results of digital
rectal exam or an elevated prostate-specific
antigen (PSA) blood test.

Types of Prostate Cancer
Acinar adenocarcinoma
Ductal adenocarcinoma
Transitional cell (or urothelial) cancer

1 Acinar adenocarcinoma -- Adenocarcinomas are
cancers that develop in the gland cells that line
the prostate gland. They are the most common type
of prostate cancer. Nearly everyone with
prostate cancer has this type.  
Ductal adenocarcinoma -- Ductal adenocarcinoma
starts in the cells that line the ducts (tubes)
of the prostate gland. It tends to grow and
spread more quickly than acinar adenocarcinoma
Transitional cell (or urothelial) cancer --
Transitional cell cancer of the prostate starts
in the cells that line the tube carrying urine to
the outside of the body (the urethra).
