Essential Tools for Juicing
  • If youre just getting started with juicing, here
is an overview of some of the tools you will need
to have a successful juice diet.

2
  • A manual juicer will be sufficient when youre
just trying a few juices occasionally. A
stainless steel or plastic juicer with a
collection container or attachment can be
purchased for less than 15. If your kitchen has
a sharp knife and a cutting board, you should be
set. Some other cool gadgets that can be helpful
are a citrus squeezer for juicing lemons and
limes, a wheat grass extractor, which is a
manually cranked juicer for handling wheat grass
    and other soft leafy ingredients.
  • Once you get started with juicing, you will
quickly see the need for some more heavy duty
tools. A professional grade juice extractor is a
great investment if you plan on juicing 3 or more
times per week. Breville, Black Decker,
Hamilton Beach and Jack Lalanne are all makers of
popular juicers. With an electric juice
extractor you will be able to get much more juice
out of your fruits in vegetables in a fraction of
the time. The units work by feeding the
ingredients into a chute where the pulp and juice
are separated by way of a sharp set of blades and
a mesh basket. The extracted juice is pushed out
one side, while the pulp is shot out into the
collection container. The pulp can be composted
or used in many nutritious recipes.

Some other handy tools to have are a bottle brush
for cleaning the parts of your juice extractor, a
citrus peeler for peeling lemons and limes (the
peel makes juices bitter), a mango corer for
removing the pit from mangos (these also work
pretty well on peaches and plums), and a good
book of juice recipes to keep it interesting. If
you plan on making smoothies and soups part of
your juice diet, investing in a high quality
blender is a good idea as well.
