Stem Cell - PowerPoint PPT Presentation

About This Presentation
Title:

Stem Cell

Description:

Stem cells are a class of undifferentiated cells that are able to differentiate into specialized cell types. Commonly, stem cells come from two main sources: Embryos formed during the blastocyst phase of embryological development (embryonic stem cells) and. Adult tissue (adult stem cells). This presentation contains_ 1.introduction 2.source of stem cell 3.types of stem cell 4. applications 5. acknowledgment 6. refference – PowerPoint PPT presentation

INTRODUCTION
  • Q What are stem cells?
  • Stem cells are mother cells that has the ability
to self renew or to develop into another type of
    cells.
  • Stem cells are undifferentiated biological cells
that can differentiate into specialized cells and
can divide to produce more stem cells.
  • Stem cells found in most of the tissues or
    organs of the body.

SOURCE OF STEM CELLS
  • Stem cells come from a variety of sources
    including blood, bone marrow,umbilicial cord
    blood,and adipose tissue.
  • Stem cells are found and retrieved from various
    parts of the body.

6
TYPES OF STEM CELLS
  • The two main types of stem cells are
  • Adult stem cells
  • Embryonic stem cells

7
Adult stem cells
  • Adult stem cells are found all over the body
    after embryonic development.
  • They are found in inside the various type of
tissues such as the blood ,skeletal muscles
,bore marrow blood vessels, liver and skin.
  • The adult stem cells can renew itself and can
differentiate to yield some or all of the major
specialized cell types of the tissue or
    organ.e.g. hematopoietic stem cells.

8
Embryonic stem cells
  • Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are stem cells
derived from the undifferentiated inner mass
    cells of a human embryo.
  • Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent.they are
able to grow into all derivatives of the three
primary germ layers ectoderm, endoderm and
    mesoderm.

9
EMBRYONIC STEM(ES) CELLS
10
APPLICATIONS
  • It is transplanted routinely to treat a variety
of blood and bone marrow diseases, blood
    cancers,and immune disorders etc.
  • Stem cells have the ability to replace damaged
    cells and treat disease.
  • Stem cells are use for stroke traumatic brain
    injury learning defects.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
  • Through this acknowledgement I would like to
thank all my respected professors for their
guidance and assistance in helping me out with
the seminar topic.I am immensely thankful to
them.I would also like to thank my seniors and
friends for their help and support.
