MassKara Festival History An Inspiration For All
Without any single doubt, the festival of smiles,
MassKara Festival is one of the most colorful and
entertaining festivals in the world. In the
Bacolod City of Phillipines, the festival starts
from the 4th week of October that remains till
the end of the month. The celebrations of this
incredible event start from the start of the
month that continues till the very end of the
festival. MassKara Festival History Economic
Loss The history of MassKara Festival is not
only an interesting one, but also a source of
motivation for all of us as well. The Bacolod
City festival started in the year 1980, when the
entire Bacolodnon people were down and out
because of the downfall in the economy of the
city. In those days, the villagers of the
Bacolod city were very much dependent on the
industry of sugar, and almost more half of the
people were associated with this industry. The
downfall started from the point when the US
started producing the substitutes of sugar like
fructose (corn syrup) and hence the consumption
of sugar became very low. In 1980, the cost of
sugar dropped to all-time low in the Phillipines
and thats when the crisis got severe in the
province. It was a very tense situation overall
and things were getting worse day by day. Don
Juan Tragedy Apart from the economic Downunder,
another thing that added fuel to the fire is the
horrifying tragedy when a ship carrying
Negronese people collided with the tanker and
sank. It happened on the 22th of April, 1980,
where more than 700 people from the city lost
their lives which included the family members of
some prominent families as well. This tragedy
along with the economic collapse was something
worse than worst for the local people of
Bacolod, and the entire city was in a state of
Mourne without any hope of better days. Want to
know the best part? It was the time, when local
people, Government, and Civil groups decided to
bring back the old smiles of the city.

So, the local people and Govt officials declared
to organize a festival, and the only purpose of
the festival was to change the gloomy atmosphere
of the city. So, this is how they defeated the
testing time with the conduction of the Masskara
Festival. Masks were introduced as a sign of
smiling face because the local people were very
much influenced from the Venice and Brazilian
Rio Carnival. You might be wondering? For the
past 3,4 decades, the MassKara festival is
getting a lot of recognition from the
international communities as well, and people
from all around the globe come in huge numbers to
witness the magnificent scenes of the Bacalod
MassKara Festival. The local people also get a
lot of benefit from this festival, and the entire
city also earns great revenue from this
wonderful event that attracts tens and thousands
of people every year.
