he shifted to the current location in 1917. The

The Pledge
Gandhi promised that he will never return to the
ashram till India wins freedom against the
British. He eventually got killed by Nathuram
Godse in 1948 after India earned freedom in 1947.

After his death, Gandhis cottage was transformed
into a museum. The new museum building was
designed by Charles Correa and inaugurated by the
then Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal
