What is SCAT?

• SCAT is School and College Ability Test. It
  measures math and verbal reasoning abilities in
  gifted children. Because SCAT is an above grade
  level test it will challenge your childs
  intellectual ability beyond the limits of his/
  her grade level. Here are few tips for SCAT
  preparation

1. 1-on-1 Prep

• 3 months before the exam day schedule multiple
  SCAT prep sessions with a qualified and
  experienced tutor either in person or online.
  Make sure that your child learns all the
  strategies of solving Math problems faster. This
  will help build his/her confidence.

2. Verbal analogies

• As per Top Grader research, there are more than
  10 analogy types that are tested on the SCAT
  test. An analogy means comparison between two
  things that may be similar or different in many
  ways. Teaching your child the methods to solve
  all analogy types will give him/her the knowledge
  needed to excel in the verbal analogies section

3. Sample practice tests

• Top Grader offers sample practice tests for SCAT.
  Students should solve these sample papers to get
  familiar with SCAT format. These practice tests
  will help students score better in their SCAT
  exam.

4. Appropriate utilization of Break time

• There is a 10-minute break between sections.
  Encourage your child to take this break. This
  break will help them in relieving some pressure
  of their head to be ready for the second section.
  Students can also use this time to eat or use a
  restroom. But remember time used beyond these 10
  minutes will be subtracted from the testing time
  assigned to the next section.

5. Familiarization with the SCAT Digital format

• Make sure that your child is familiar with mouse,
  keyboard and computer monitor before the day of
  the test. Its also advisable that you give a

6. Answer all the questions

• There are no negative markings for wrong answers.
  Encourage your child to guess on questions they
  cannot figure out or lack adequate time for.

7. Time yourself

• Students have 22 minutes to complete each of the
  two sections and there are 55 questions in each
  section. That means students can solve 3
  questions in approximately one minute. Therefore,
  it is important that students learn to pace
  themselves for time.
