Title:

Appetite Controled by The Endocannabinoid System

Description:

Hunger means a painful sensation or caused weakness by the desire for food or empty stomach. Ghrelin and leptin are the primary hormones which control the feeling of hunger. Ghrelin is produced by stomach and increase the hunger whereas laptin is opposite of ghrelin, It decrease the feeling of hunger. The sensation of hunger is necessary because it makes us feel weather our body needs food intake or not. Hunger is mediated by mechanism which can be controlled by the endocannabinioid system. THC and CB1 are used to increase beahviour related to intake of food. Endocannabinoid receives a rewarding signal, and they increase the firing rate of neurons. Endocannabinoid system regulates food intake in the central nervous system. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

What is Hunger?
  • Hunger simply means a painful sensation or caused
weakness by the desire for food or empty stomach.
  • The primary hormones ghrelin and leptin have
controlled the need for hunger. Ghrelin and
laptin both are opposite of each other. Ghrelin
increases your hunger when laptin decrease your hu
    nger.
  • Because of ghrelin you feeling hungry which is
produced in the stomach. Laptin is produced after
consuming a meal in the fat cells.
  • Hunger is very complex than this simple
explanation. It is a very uncomfortable
    situation.

4
How is Hunger mediated?
  • Hormones and enzymes control the behavior and
    functions of our body.
  • The sensation of hunger is necessary because it
makes us feel weather our body needs food intake
    or not.
  • hunger is mediated by some mechanism which can
be controlled by the endocannabinoid system. THC
and CB1 are used to increase behavior related to
    intake of food.

5
Positive Incentive Perspective
  • Main positive augmentation of food is good taste
by which we can feel hunger or motivate to eat.
  • Endocannabinoid receives a rewarding signal, and
they increase the firing rate of neurons.
  • Endocannabinoid system regulates food intake in
the central nervous system. This is the positive
    perspective theory of appetite.

6
The Set-point Theory of Appetite
  • When we consume food, Amino acid and
carbohydrates are delivered into the blood and
    placed to cells.
  • leptin is released when carbs and protein are
felt. Blood sugar level and amino acid fall at a
certain level that level can be called set point.
After because of ghrelin we feel hungry again.
  • Important primary hormones ghrelin and laptin
has the important role in endocannabinoid system.
Both have opposite effect in ECS, ghrelin
encourages brain about how tasty food is and
increase an appetite, and laptin decrease it.
This both processes regulate our appetite and
    metabolism.
