1
Options for studying engineering in Tamil Nadu
2
After completing high school education, students
have multiple options to choose for deciding
about their career. They have options like
Medicine, Engineering, Arts, Commerce, etc.,.
Engineering is one of popular option that most of
the students choose. Engineering is more
popular our state Tamil Nadu compared to other
states in India. It can be evidently seen by the
large number of engineering colleges in Chennai.
There are multiple types of engineering based
upon the type of control it has.
3
Most popular one are IITs and NITs which are
controlled by central government. The second
popular one is the universities that are
controlled by state government. This includes
universities like Anna University, Madurai
Kamarajar University, Trichy Bharathidasan
University. Next one is private deemed
universities which have autonomous control. The
last type of colleges is private self financed
colleges which are controlled by Anna University.
4
Any student who is willing to join an engineering
college will prefer government institutes. It
is mainly because the quality of education will
be higher and there is a high probability of
getting placed in an industry top company. The
other major factor is fee will be considerably
low in government colleges. If you are
interested in studying departments like
Aeronautical engineering in Chennai, government
colleges are the most preferred option.
5
Since it is most preferred option, competition
will be so high. As there is only very limited
number government colleges offering engineering
education, it is not accessible for most of the
aspiring students. Those students have to
choose between the deemed universities and Anna
University affiliated colleges.
6
Deemed universities are autonomous universities
which have their own syllabus and examination and
valuation procedure. They have their own rules
regarding running the institution, but these
rules must be based on the AICTE guidelines.
Government has no control regarding the fees
collected in these colleges and in general fees
are quite high in these institutes.
7
Apart from the private deemed universities, all
other private engineering colleges in Chennai are
affiliated under Anna universities. These
colleges follow the guidelines provided by the
Anna University. Everything, including the
syllabus, course structure, examination
procedure, valuation are curated and monitored by
Anna University. These colleges are only allowed
to collect the fee, which is allowed by the state
government.
