The growth in the crop protection industry of
Spain can be attributed to the rising trend for

in Europe. The overall consumption of pesticides

country. Major crops produced in Spain are

crops. The demand for fungicides and bactericides
was highest in the country followed by the demand
for herbicides, haulm destructors and moss
killers. Insecticides and acaricides were also
consumed in substantial amounts. The key growth
drivers of the crop protection market have been
the increase in domestic consumption and export
of pesticides to other African countries.

The competition in the local market has been
intense due to the presence of a large number of
local and global players producing high quality
crop protection products. Increase in organic
farming culture is gradually augmenting the
demand for bio-pesticides in the country.
Companies are introducing newer products in the
market that result in higher yield of crop. The
demand for crop protection products in the
country have also increased due to multiple
cropping patterns and temperature fluctuation.
The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) initiated by
the European Union has supported the overall
agriculture sector in countries in Europe. This
direct benefits provided to farmers under CAP has
supported the overall agriculture sector in
Europe and has indirectly supported the growth of
the crop protection industry as well. Spain
complies with the European Unions legislation
for usage of pesticides and other crop protection
products. These regulations promote the use of
environment friendly products that have a minimum
impact on human health. Owing to this the
consumption of bio-pesticides is also gradually
increasing in the country.
