System

What Well Cover Today
  1. The Basics of Surround Sound
  2. The Limitations Budget Space
  3. The Placement
  4. The Connection Wired vs Wireless Surround Sound

3
The Basics of Surround Sound
  • Did you hear that rasping sound? Hmm. There it is
again! It sounds like its coming from the back.
No, wait, the front! Now its behind again, now
    the right...its everywhere!
  • That is how youll feel with surround sound.

4
The Basics of Surround Sound
  • Wireless surround sound systems, like those
provided by HEOS by Denon (pictured), literally
surround you in a cocoon of sound.
  • Youll usually encounter surround sound with 5.1
    channels consisting of
  • Center speaker located above or below the
television that provides the soundtrack and
    dialogue
  • Left and right front channels that provide the
    musical score and sound effects
  • Rear left and right channels that provide
additional sound effects for atmosphere and
    ambiance
  • A Subwoofer placed near the television that adds
the extra 0.1 sound and provides the bass
  • NOTE There are other variations like 7.1 and 9.1
surround sound that include additional 2 and 4
    speakers.

5
The Limitations Budget Space
  • No matter what you buy in life, you always have
to abide by certain limitations. In our case,
this is your budget and the space allotted for
    the speakers.
  • Whether youre strapped for cash or live in a
small NYC 1-room studio, youll probably do best
by substituting the three front speakers for a
single soundbar that provides the same sound, but
    at a lower cost.
  • Additionally, instead of setting up three
separate speakers you only have to deal with one,
so theres that if youre a fan of easy setups.

6
The Placement
  • Decided on a budget? Good. Now that thats out of
the way, its time to focus on placement.
Remember, the point is to surround yourself with
    sound.

7
The Placement
  • And now we arrive at the placement of you, the
listener, and the speakers providing surround
    sound
  • You belong in the center
  • The Center Speaker goes directly in front of you
  • The Left and Right Front Speakers go -30 and 30
    in front of you
  • The Rear Left and Right Speakers go -110 and
    110 behind you
  • The Subwoofer goes right next to the television
(-22 or 22 in front of you)
  • NOTE The instructions above are for a 5.1 setup.
If youre going the soundbar route, simply ignore
the front speakers and place the soundbar
    underneath or above the TV.

8
The Connection Wired vs Wireless Surround Sound
  • And now we arrive at the connection. Before you
choose wired because you think it leads to
superior sound, think again that may have been
the case 10 years ago, but today wireless is
    superior in all regards.
  • Additionally, wires are annoying. Plain and
simple. Not only can you trip on them, but you
also have the added hassle of trying to match
your decor to those unsightly wires. Nope, no
    thank you.
