What is Gum Disease?
  • Periodontal disease is an infection of the teeth,
    gums and the bone that surrounds the teeth.
  • Gum disease is a serious disease which not only
    affects your teeth but your overall health too.
  • When you dont brush or floss your teeth,
    bacteria in your mouth multiplies and produces
    acids that damage your teeth and causes
    inflammation of the gums and supporting
    structures of teeth.
  • When the inflammation spreads below the gum line,
    it destroys the supporting structures of teeth
    which in turn result in tooth loss.

Symptoms of Gum Disease
  • Persistent Bad breath or a bad taste in mouth
  • Gum recession
  • Redness and irritation of gums
  • Bleeding gums or loose teeth
  • Swollen or tender gums

Causes of Gum Disease
  • The main cause of periodontal disease is the
    accumulation of plaque on your teeth due to poor
    oral hygiene.
  • The bacteria in plaque invades the spaces between
    the teeth and gums and begins producing toxins.
  • These toxins combined with your body's reaction
    to them destroys the bone around your teeth.

 Prevention Treatment

  • Most importantly gum disease can be prevented
    with good oral hygiene and regular visits to your
    dentist.
  • Always brush your teeth twice a day and floss
    once a day
  • Use mouthwash to kill bacteria.
  • In some severe cases, surgery might be required.
