Diabetes Introduction

• Diabetes is a chronic disease which is the result
  of increased sugar/glucose level in the blood.
  Hormone insulin converts the sugar or glucose
  present in the blood into energy and diabetes
  happen when pancreas secretes insufficient
  insulin. Diabetes is majorly categorized in two
  types which have been explained in the following
  slides.

Type 1 Diabetes

• Genetic predisposition may cause Type 1 diabetes.
  It often begins in childhood and is also called
  as insulin-dependent diabetes. In type 1
  diabetes, the pancreas gets damaged and does not
  make insulin, which results in increased sugar
  level in blood. Many medical risks are associated
  with type 1 diabetes including heart diseases and
  stroke.

Treatment for Type 1 Diabetes

• The treatment for type 1 diabetes includes taking
  insulin, which is injected in the body through a
  syringe. The patient should also make significant
  lifestyle changes such as exercising daily and
  following the right diet plan to control this
  disease.

Type 2 Diabetes

• Type 2 diabetes, also called as adult-onset
  diabetes, is the result of pancreas not producing
  enough insulin, resulting in increased blood
  sugar. However, it is non-insulin dependent. The
  main causes of type 2 diabetes are unhealthy
  lifestyle and obesity.

Treatment for Type 2 Diabetes

• There are no cures but diabetes can be prevented
  naturally in India. One of the prime reasons for
  type 2 diabetes is obesity and hence, it can be
  controlled by controlling and losing body weight
  the patient can control body weight through
  exercise. However, medication is also required to
  keep the condition in control.
