Clean Grout
  • Did you know that clean grout is the secret to
clean-looking tile floors, walls and counters?

3
Grout
  • Grout is absorbent and absorbs dirt and spills,
    thus it stains easily.
  • Dirt and grime stains the grout in an entry
  • Spills are to blame for dirty grout in the
    kitchen.
  • In a bathroom, soap, mold and mildew make dirty
    grout.

4
Cleaning The Grout
  1. Wipe down the grout with hot water to remove
    surface dirt and grime.
  2. Mix your own by putting a 50-50 mix of vinegar
and water into a spray bottle.  Spray a cleaning
    solution on the grout.
  3.  Spray on the grout, let stand for 5 minutes and
then scrub with a soft brush.
  4. Use a toothbrush or other small scrub brush to
    scrub the grout.

5
  • For Extra Scrubbing Power
  • Use an electric toothbrush. Do not use a  metal
brush as it will scratch the tile and could knock
    out pieces of the grout.
  • Rinse thoroughly with hot water when youre
    done.
  • For Stubborn Grout Stains
  • Mix a paste of two parts baking soda and one
    part water.
  • Apply it to the stain, let it sit overnight and
then scrub it using a nylon brush.
  • Rinse thoroughly with hot water once youre
    done.

6
Knowing how to clean stained grout in stone tile
will keep you from damaging your floor. Knowing
how to clean dirty grout improves the look and
extends the life of your tile.
  • For Coarse Or Porous Tile Like Marble
  • Use a less acidic solution instead of vinegar.
    Vinegar can stain the tile.
  • Mix one-part peroxide and two-parts baking soda.
Using this solution, scrub the grout with a soft
    brush.
  • A sandpaper can be used to remove stains from
grout. Fold the sandpaper and work the creased
edge back and forth laterally the grout line. A
pencil-top eraser can be utilized as well. Rub
it back and forth through the stained grout line.
Rinse thoroughly with hot water once youre
    finished..
  • When youre done cleaning, air dry the grout for
24 hours, then put on a silicone-based grout
sealer to fight future stains and dirt. Youll
need to reapply the sealer every two years, or
more often if the grout is in a high-traffic area.

Regular Maintenance for Ceramic Tiles
  • Regular Maintenance
  • Regular Maintenance is the significant with
    ceramic tiles.
  • Ceramic Tiles get dusty easily. Wipe or vacuum
(use a soft brush to avoid scratches) at least
twice a week and definitely before you clean.
  • This stops debris becoming embedded in the
    grout.

8
Dont Ignore the power of Water
  • Water
  • Water is the best cleaner for ceramic tiles and
capable to remove the most stubborn stains.
  • Use a gentle cleaner if your tile manufacturer
advises it, or utilize a 50/50 mixture of water
and vinegar for a shiny surface.
  • The mop should be cleaned prior to use it
otherwise, it could be the reason you are not
getting the shine you would wish.
  • Utilize a gentle scraper (not sharp) on anything
    that water cannot remove.

9
Cleaning Items To Avoid for Certain Types of Tiles
  • Ceramic Tiles
  • Detergents and harsh chemicals they can damage
and discolor your grout over time.
  • Glass Tiles
  • Hard brushes that can scratch the surface.
Sweeping every day to remove hard particles with
hard brushes may damage the tiles.
  • Porcelain/vitrified tiles
  • Drying the spill on the surface of the tile as
    they may cause a stain.
  • Natural Stone and Marble
  • Ceramic tile cleaners, acidic or alkaline
products, rough cloths or brushes and
    off-the-shelf floor cleaners.
  • Metal
  • Ammonia and bleach, steel wool, abrasive cleaners
    and scouring pads.
  • Slate Tiles
  • Citrus and vinegar which are acid-based cleaners
