3
What is Animation ?
  • The animation is a dynamic factor in which
objects or images are manipulated to resemble as
    running pictures.
  • In the traditional animation, the images were
drawn by hand on cels to be photographed and
    exhibited on film.
  • Nowadays most animations are made with

What is 2D Animation ?
  • 2D Animation is an acronym for two dimensional.
  • 2D Animation refers to the creation and
modification of moving pictures on computers in a
    two-dimensional situation using 2D vector
    graphics and 2D bitmap.
  • Pictures can be seen from one angle at the moment.

What is 3D Animation ?
  • 3D Animation is an acronym for three dimensional.
  • The 3D technology of computer animation refers to
the creation of moving pictures using 3D digital
    environment.

Realistic Appeal
  • 2D animation consists of frames and carries no
realistic feather in them whereas 3D animation
comprises of movements and carries realistic
    appeal in them.
  • 3D technology enables the use of lighting and
textures that can be used to create better stable
images and can be merged into vital video
    components.

11
Applicability
  • 2D animation is widely used in 2D animated
    movies, television advertisements, cartoons,
films, video games, engineering demos, websites,
    e-learning and many more.
  • 3D animation is widely used in Architecture,
    Medical, and Aerospace, Engineering, gaming
industry, biotechnology, movies and many more.

12
Software Used in Animation
  • Adobe After Effects, Adobe Flash Professional,
Motion, Toon Boom, and Anime Studio are some of
the commonly used software used to create 2D
    animation.
  • Autodesk 3Ds Max, Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4D,
ZBrush, and Blender are some of the commonly used
software used to create 3D animation.

13
Example
  • Examples of 2D Animation are Daffy Duck, Bugs
Bunny, Snow White, the little mermaid, family
    guy, etc.
  • Examples of 3D Animation are films like Toy
Story, Shrek, Jurassic Park, The Transformers,
    etc.

14
  • Although 3D animation offers several advantages
over 2D animation, most users prefer a
    combination of both the techniques.
  • A mix of 2D and 3D animation gives a more natural
presentation. 2D animation techniques are more
suitable for users having low budgets.
