Title: Plastic Lens or Glass Lens – Which one is Better?

1
Plastic Lens or Glass Lens Which one is
Better?
2
  • Are you confused which lens material is better?
Is it plastic lens or glass lens? Dont you worry
because today we will clearly state the
    difference between these two types
of eyeglass materials plastic lens and glass
lens, by holding a competition between both the
    types of lens material.
  • Before we start off with the competition, you
should know that each type of lens material
contains some benefits and some drawbacks, and
none can be an absolute winner because it depends
    on the situation.
  • Competition 1 Which one Blocks UV Rays?
  • As compared to glass lens, plastic lens is a
better candidate when it comes to filtering out
the suns harmful UV rays because glass lens
works best at absorbing UV radiation and not
blocking it while poly-carbonate plastic lenses
manufactured to provide 100 UV protection and is
    less transparent than glass lens.
  • Polycarbonate Plastic is the winner!

3
  • Competition 2 Which Material has Less Weight?
  • When it comes to comparing weights, plastic lens
is much lighter than glass lens because plastic
lens has thinner edges and so requires less
material. Glass lens being heavier may result in
pressure points on your nose and oftentimes due
to exertion it may even slip off.
  • If you are a sports person, then going for
plastic lens is your best bet.
  • Plastic lens is the winner!
  •
  • Competition 3 Which one is More Scratch
    Resistant?
  • Both the glass and plastic lens can be applied
with anti-scratch coatings but even then, the
glass lens has a high tendency to resist
scratches than plastic lens. Having your glass
lens rubbed against hard surface or paper towel
may lead to much less scratches than if it was
    plastic lens.
  • Glass lens is the winner!

4
  • Competition 4 Which one is More Delicate?
  • You might already know that plastic lens is
splinter proof while glass lens can shatter and
tear easily if fallen. This is the reason why
plastic lens is highly recommended to children
and people who are much into outdoor activities.
  • Plastic lens is the winner!
  •
  •
  • Competition 5 Distinguishing Between Prices
  • When you are out there grabbing spectacles while
considering the price tags because you are low on
budget then you should clearly go for plastic
lens as they are much cheaper than glass lens.
  • Plastic lens is the winner!

5
  • Competition 6 Vision Enhancement
  • Glass lens is much more transparent than plastic
lens therefore, an excessive amount of light of
sun, or car headlights etc., can easily pass
through and adversely affect the clarity of
vision. In few cases glass lens may improve your
vision as it is much more dust and scratch proof
than plastic lens but then you can apply
    anti-scratch coatings on plastic lens.
  • Such that, plastic lens is less susceptible to
high amount of light as it can block the light
rays to a high extent and with new technical
    advancements, plastic lens like high-index
lens and photochromic lens. These both lens cuts
down glare immensely and photochromic lens varies
from light tint to dark tint when exposed to
    excessive amount of light.
  • Plastic lens is the winner!
  •
  • Competition 7 Which Material Works Best in
    Extreme Temperatures
  • Plastic lens has this drawback of being distorted
if exposed to extreme temperatures such as hot or
cold for longer duration and it may expand or
shrink in size (not a lot). In this situation
glass lens works best because it is rigid and
    doesnt deform its shape.
  • Glass lens is the winner!

6
  • In the majority case scenarios, plastic lens has
been winning and you might have concluded by now
that plastic lens is better than glass lens, but
it highly depends on the situation, and your
lifestyle and taste, some may still prefer glass
    lens over plastic lens.
