What is IIT-JEE

• Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an
  engineering entrance examination conducted for
  admission to various engineering colleges in
  India. It is constituted by two different
  examinations - JEE Main and the JEE Advanced. The
  exams are of the objective pattern. JEE Advanced
  is regarded internationally as one of the most
  challenging undergraduate admission tests.

About IIT-JEE

• Joint Entrance Examination Advanced
  (JEE-Advanced), formerly the Indian Institutes of
  Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE)
  is an annual engineering college entrance
  examination in India. It is conducted by one of
  the seven zonal IITs (IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur,
  IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras,
  and IIT Guwhati ) under guidance of the Joint
  Admission Board(JAB). It is used as the sole
  admission test by the 23 Indian Institute of
  Technology (IITs). Other universities like the
  Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology,
  Indian Institute of Science Education and
  Research (IISERs), and the premier Indian
  Institute of Science (IISc) also use the score
  obtained in JEE Advanced as the basis for
  admission.

Importance of IIT-JEE

• JEE is very important if you want to do
  engineering in India. You need a very high rank
  in JEE to get in IITs, IISc or NITs. (BITSAT is
  an other exam to get into BITs).

Why IIT-JEE

• If you don't do well, you will end up in Tier 2
  or 3 colleges where your life is screwed. It's
  very difficult to graduate from such colleges
  with reasonable knowledge in the subject. This is
  because such institutes usually just emphasis on
  spending time in record writing, rote learning,
  semester exams that go on for a month or two and
  dull peer group. Most of the placements from such
  institutes are in the IT sector. Since you have
  not understood engineering properly, you won't be
  able to clear other engineering exams such as
  GATE or ESE.
