About Artist

•  Lin Fengmian (???, 1900-1991) is a Chinese
  painter and art educator who sought to blend the
  best of both Eastern and Western art. 
•  The son of a painter, Lin Fengmian learned
  traditional Chinese painting techniques as a
  child. Lin Fengmian studied European painting at
  the Dijon Art College and the Ècole des
  Beaux-Arts in Paris.

Artist Artwork's Style

• Lin is revered among the critics as an Asian
  contemporary painting master. Lins style is
  prized for being distinctively Chinese in spite
  of his elaborate usage of Western visual
  language. Art history scholars consider Lin as a
  founding father of the practice that he dedicated
  his life to. His branch of Chinese painting
  emerged in the 1930s. Lins preferred medium was
  rice paper and inks. Lin often broke with the
  conventions of his time and he favored, among
  other elements, a square format rather than
  traditional long scrolls and he employed bright
  hues.
