What is detox?
  • Anyone who has abused or become addicted to a
substance will have to go through detox. This is
the time period in which their body will rid
itself of the harmful chemicals brought in by the
substance abuse and gradually try to put things
back to normal. The amount of time detox takes
can vary depending on the method used, the amount
of substance in the patients body and if the
patient has abused more than one substance. The
patient must make the decision to go through
    detox.
  • People may believe the false idea that detox is
all one needs to cure addiction. In reality,
there is no full cure for an addiction and detox
will help a patient prepare for the ongoing
battle against it. Detox is the most effective
when followed with an addiction treatment
program. Since detoxification clears the body and
mind of the addictive substance, the following
treatment program will seem possible. Detox will
not completely cure the cravings and will not
benefit a patient if they leave after the detox
    process without further help.

NTR NAD Therapy
  • Natural Assisted Detox (NAD) is a new and
innovative approach to treating and alleviating
the withdrawal effects of addictive substances
such as cocaine, narcotic painkillers, heroin,
marijuana and other drugs. As one can guess from
its name, it makes use of naturally occurring
substances that are made in the body and are
depleted from the body is cases of substance
    abuse.
  • Withdrawal And Drug Addiction
  • Drug addiction creates changes in the brain
chemistry which produces a re-wiring of the brain
synapses and as a result, interferes with the
connections in the brain. This is a similar
mechanism in the wiring of electronic devices
one shortage in a cable can cause an entire
    entertainment center to shut down.
  • When someone halts their drug or alcohol use,
they begin to go through the process of detox.
This involves their brain trying to put things
back to right and get rid of the harmful
chemicals that were introduced to it through the
substance use. The detox process is what creates
    withdrawal symptoms.

Treatment Options
  • Rapid detox provides the recovering individual
with a great start to their clean and sober
lifestyle. However, detox is just the first step
to a much longer, normally lifelong commitment to
    recovery.
  • After detox comes treatment, normally lasting
between 30 to 90 days though a persons road to
recovery is one that will last their lifetime
hopefully. Treatment options will vary depending
on what the treatment facility offers and on the
individuals circumstances. For example a person
struggling with a lifelong addiction to
methamphetamine may benefit more from therapy
while a person addited to heroin may rely more on
the use of medications to help them in
    combination with therapy options.
  • In most cases though treatment should include
both medication and therapy which are combined
    for the best results.

Medication
  • Medication can be used to combat withdrawal
symptoms, cravings and for dealing with mental
health disorders. Medication use will, as can be
    guessed, depend on the individuals
circumstances. For example, a person with
    depression may be prescribed anti-depressants
while a person with schizophrenia may be
    prescribed anti-psychotics. Likewise, a person
who is still dealing with cravings may be given a
medication to help them deal with these cravings
    to help them avoid relapsing.
  • A doctor will normally need to assess what an
individual is going through before prescribing
medication. Assessment can include taking a full
family and medical history and checking to see if
there are any underlying disorders that could be
    affecting the persons recovery.
  • For those with an underlying mental health
disorder, medication can make a big difference.
This is especially true if that disorder is
affecting their ability to stay clean and sober.
Often, medication is combined with therapy to
    maximize its effect.

7
Therapy Options
  • Therapy can be used on its own or in conjunction
    with medication.
  • What therapy a person uses will, again, depend on
their circumstances. In many cases Cognitive
behavioral therapy is used to help individuals
identify negative thoughts and behaviors and turn
them around. Other helpful therapies can include
    Solution based therapy, Dialectical behavioral
therapy and even group therapy. Different
therapies will target different problems and help
an individual overcome their addiction and learn
to lead a clean and sober life again.
  • There are also alternative therapies one can use
to improve upon their recovery such as yoga,
    mindfulness, equine therapy and more.
