What is PCOS? How to get pregnant with PCOS?

What is PCOS?
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal
disorder that is common among women of
reproductive age. Women with PCOS produce higher
than normal levels of androgens, which are
nothing but male sexual hormones. This hormonal
imbalance causes them to skip their menstrual
periods, which makes it harder to get pregnant.
Women with PCOS may also have infrequent or
prolonged menstrual periods while their ovaries
may develop several small collections of fluid
(follicles) and fail to release eggs regularly.

What is PCOS? How to get pregnant with PCOS?
  • The treatment of PCOS involves contraceptive
medications, weight loss, eating a PCOS diet,
regular exercise and fertility treatments like
IVF. Contraceptive medications are known to
control the symptoms of PCOS which helps with
    regularizing ovulation.

5
Causes
  • Insulin resistance  If the cells become
resistant to the action of insulin, blood sugar
levels can rise. This causes the body to produce
even more insulin. Excess insulin might increase
the production of androgens, which can cause
    difficulties with ovulation.
  • Inflammation Women with PCOS suffer from a type
    of low-grade inflammation that stimulates
polycystic ovaries to produce more androgens
which can lead to heart and blood vessel problems.

6
Complications
  • Infertility
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Miscarriage or premature birth
  • Sleep apnea
  • Depression
  • Metabolic syndrome

Getting Pregnant with PCOS
  • Fertility Medications Fertility drugs may help
control the symptoms of PCOS in an attempt to
    temporarily assist with ovulation.
  • Managing Weight Losing weight is an important
    lifestyle modification necessary for getting
    pregnant with PCOS.
  • PCOS Friendly Diet A balanced diet that is rich
in good fats and low in processed carbohydrates
and sugar helps deal with PCOS.
  • Regular Exercise  Exercise helps in losing
weight and keeping it off, which helps regulate
hormones and increases chances of ovulation.
  • Fertility Treatments In Vitro Fertilization
(IVF) is a proven method for getting pregnant
    with PCOS.
